Talega Canyon, or remain at or a<strong>bo</strong>ve 1,900’ MSL when transiting San Mateo<br />

Canyon. LONGRIFLE will provide advisories to HOLF aircraft for all<br />

conflicting traffic.<br />

9. Concurrent HOLF/Fixed-Wing Operations. HOLF helicopter operations will<br />

be restricted to, at or below 1,400’ MSL when fixed-wing aircraft are<br />

operating in the vicinity of San Mateo Canyon. Fixed-wing aircraft will<br />

operate at or a<strong>bo</strong>ve 2,500’ MSL. HOLF operations are not authorized when the<br />

IP Bridge fixed-wing CAS route is in effect.<br />

10. Weather Minimums. The following weather minimums are in effect during<br />

HOLF operations. Using these guidelines, aircraft commanders will determine<br />

acceptable weather.<br />

a. Day/unaided. 800/2<br />

b. Simultaneous operations at HOLF and HLZ. 800/2<br />

c. Night/Aided. 1000/3<br />

11. Visual Reference Points. For visual reference, the points listed below<br />

may be used to help determine weather conditions.<br />

a. The lighted Northern Impact Area Control (NIAC) Tower at 513 975 is<br />

one (1) mile from the HOLF.<br />

b. The 62 Area <strong>Camp</strong> San Mateo is two (2) miles from the HOLF.<br />

c. The power lines in San Mateo Creek, grid 4696, are three (3) miles<br />

from the HOLF.<br />

4014. HELICOPTER LANDING ZONES<br />

1. Administrative Landing Zones. Each cantonment and major command area<br />

on <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Pendleton</strong> will maintain a standard administrative helicopter Landing<br />

Zone (LZ) for use by MEDEVAC, VIPs, command, or routine administrative<br />

flights. Specific LZ descriptions and instructions can be found in the<br />

Aviation Training Facilities Survey. Please note that certain LZs can<br />

support UH-1 operations only.<br />

2. Administrative Landing Zone Marking. Each LZ shall be marked by an<br />

equilateral segmented triangle with 58” sides, and the letter “H” which will<br />

point to magnetic north. The area number will be centered on or below the<br />

base. The triangle, letter “H”, and numbers shall be composed of white<br />

painted concrete or of white paint on permanent concrete, asphalt, or grass<br />

surface at least 100 feet in diameter, if possible.<br />

3. Administrative Landing Zone Maintenance. Area Commanders are responsible<br />

for the marking and maintenance of helicopter LZs in their areas. Special<br />

attention should be directed toward keeping the concrete painted white, the<br />

numbers clearly visible, and the surrounding vegetation well trimmed.<br />

4. Obstructions. Tall poles, wires, or other elevated obstructions will not<br />

be erected in the vicinity of <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Pendleton</strong>’s helicopter LZs without prior<br />

approval of the <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Pendleton</strong> Airspace Manager at (760) 725-8183. LZs<br />

should also be kept clear of tents, vehicles, or other objects easily moved<br />

or damaged by rotor wash.<br />
