Notify LONGRIFLE approximately thirty (30) minutes prior to securing from the<br />

gas chamber.<br />

C. Responsibilities Of the OIC<br />

1. OIC Requirements. The OIC shall be a SSgt or a<strong>bo</strong>ve and must hold an MOS<br />

of 5711 or 5702 or equivalent.<br />

2. Safety Brief. Ensure all personnel undergoing training participate in<br />

the safety brief.<br />

3. Range and Safety Regulations. The OIC shall be knowledgeable in all<br />

local range and safety regulations pertaining to CS and IPECE training.<br />

4. Scheduling. Ensure the IPECE is appropriately scheduled via the Range<br />

Scheduling Office.<br />

5. Safety Requirements. Ensure a dedicated safety vehicle with corpsman and<br />

non-participating driver are on-site. Safety vehicle personnel shall be<br />

familiar with Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) and have IPE to include<br />

their issued protective mask in case they have to enter the chamber or<br />

exercise area to tend to an emergency.<br />

6. Preparation Supervision. Supervise preparation and conduct of the IPECE<br />

to include build-up of CS concentration inside the chamber and ensure the<br />

exercise is conducted at a safe distance from any non-participating<br />

personnel.<br />

7. Assistant Instructor Brief. Brief assistant instructors on safety<br />

requirements.<br />

8. Training Supervision. Supervise all IPECE training.<br />

D. Responsibilities of the RSO<br />

1. RSO Requirements. The RSO will be a staff sergeant or a<strong>bo</strong>ve and must<br />

hold an MOS of 5711 or 5702 or equivalent.<br />

2. Munition Modification. Per paragraphs 7008 and 7009 of this Order,<br />

modifications or mixing of munitions are prohibited. CS capsules or loose CS<br />

shall not be incorporated into smoke producing materials.<br />

3. Hard-Surfaced Roads/Built-Up Areas/<strong>Base</strong> Boundaries. The RSO shall not<br />

allow CS/HC smoke to be used in the areas listed below.<br />

a. Anywhere west of the I-5 Freeway.<br />

b. Within 1,000 meters east of the I-5 Freeway.<br />

c. Within 1,000 meters of any <strong>Base</strong> <strong>bo</strong>undaries.<br />

d. Within 500 meters of any hard-surface roads or built-up areas<br />

anywhere a<strong>bo</strong>ard <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Pendleton</strong>.<br />
