Early operations: Lovinac, Glina and Struga, Plitviće, Kijevo July-August 1991<br />

1396. The Trial Chamber now turns to the operations in Lovinac, Glina and Struva, Plitviće,<br />

and Kijevo in July and August 1991. According to the Prosecution, the Golubić-trained Red<br />

Berets took part in attacks on Glina and Struga under the command of Captain Dragan in July<br />

1991 and in attacks on Lovinac, Plitviće, and Kijevo in summer and autumn 1991. 2574<br />

Lovinac, June 1991<br />

1397. The Trial Chamber recalls its findings in chapter 3.1.7 in relation to Lovinac that in<br />

June 1991, SAO Krajina Police members, including Milan Martić, attacked Lovinac. Prior to<br />

the attack, Franko Simatović, Milan Babić, and Dušan (Dule) Orlović discussed the objective<br />

of the attack on Lovinac. Simatović, Nikola Pilipović, and a number of special police officers<br />

who had trained at Golubić participated in the attack on Lovinac. The Trial Chamber will<br />

further consider this operation, below.<br />

Glina and Struga, July 1991<br />

1398. The Trial Chamber recalls its findings in chapter 3.1.7 in relation to Glina and Struga<br />

that on 25 or 26 July 1991, Serb forces under the command of Captain Dragan Vasiljković<br />

and the Glina War Staff, and including the “Republic of Serbia SAO Krajina Special Purposes<br />

Unit”, attacked the predominantly Croat village of Struga, and that on 26 July 1991, the<br />

“Republic of Serbia SAO Krajina Special Purposes Unit” under the command of Captain<br />

Dragan attacked the village of Glina. This unit included Borjan Vučković, Milan Andić,<br />

Nikola Pupovac, Nikola Simić, Dragan Oluić, Damir Vladić, and Saša Medaković, as well as<br />

squad commanders Ilija Vučković and Živojin Ivanović (also known as ‘Crnogorac’ or ‘the<br />

Montenegrin’). Milenko Popović, Davor Subotić, and Nikola Pilipović also participated in the<br />

attack on Glina. The Trial Chamber recalls the evidence of Witness JF-039 reviewed in<br />

chapter 3.1.7 in relation to Glina and Struga that people spoke of the men who attacked Glina<br />

as being under the command of Frenki and of Captain Dragan and that these men were later<br />

nicknamed the Kninđes. The Trial Chamber further recalls that on 19 July 1991 Captain<br />

Dragan sent a situation report from Glina to, amongst others, “Frenki”, and that around 28<br />
