Red Berets began to co-operate with the police and were given the task of controlling vehicles
and passengers in Srem and Baranja. 2918
1514. Dušan Knežević, the Serb police commander in Ilok between November 1991 and
June 1992, 2919 testified that he first heard of the Red Berets in November 1991, when some
members informed him about their presence in Ilok. 2920 He had informal contact with them, as
he was in charge of controlling the area. 2921 The witness went to Pajzoš several times and met
with Radojica Božović, Ivanović, Prica, and a person called Vučković, all of them members
of the Serbian DB. 2922 They were wearing camouflage military uniforms and all wore red
berets. 2923 Božović seemed to be the leader of the group. 2924 Božović told the witness that he
was from the DB. 2925 At a briefing of the town command, a colonel confirmed that there was a
unit in the area and told the witness to leave them alone to do their work. 2926 The witness was
told by the group that they were guarding a communications centre. 2927 He inquired with
Badža about who these men were and was told that they were in Pajzoš to maintain
surveillance. 2928
1515. Witness JF-047, a Serb who was a member of various paramilitary units including the
unit referred to him as the Red Berets, 2929 testified that in January 1992 he joined the SBWS
TO in Koprivna as an SRS volunteer. 2930 At the end of January or early February 1992, Debeli
and his group arrived in Koprivna. 2931 According to the witness, the SBWS MUP comprised
inter alia of the group of about 30 men commanded by Debeli. 2932 They wore blue
