GOVERNOR
The Victor E. Bruce Financial Complex
is a fine structure situated in Tobago. At a
special ceremony held on June 18, 2012,
the building was named in honour of the
first local Governor of the Central Bank of
Trinidad and Tobago - Victor Edward Bruce.
Vintage stumbled on this building while on
assignment in Tobago, and captured its image
for the benefit of our readers. This complex
is a fitting memorial to Governor Bruce who
was first and foremost a Tobagonian.
Vintage remembers Governor Bruce mainly
for his commanding physical presence.
There were times when ordinary staff would
enjoy a chuckle on seeing a cool slowwalking
manager suddenly break into a jog
when summoned by Governor Bruce. Yes,
he demanded high standards. He insisted
that even outside of working hours, Central
Bank employees were expected to maintain
standards of decorum and to engage in a
code of conduct befitting a ‘Central Banker’.
Having served for a period of fifteen years,
Victor Bruce remains the longest serving
Governor of the Central Bank of Trinidad
and Tobago. The Victor E. Bruce Financial
complex preserves the memory of a highachieving
son of the soil and hopefully
will encourage upcoming Central Bankers
to strive for the highest standards in
performance, public service and integrity.
Vintage thinks its cool to have a building
named after you. Yep!
