BRITAIN 'S MOST PRACTICAL 4x4 DISCOVERED
The Land Rover Discovery 3 has been named Britain's most practical
4x4 in a test conducted by Planet 4x4 Magazine.
In the first assessment of its kind, the Discovery 3 scored an
impressive 93 points out of a total 100 and beat off competition from
the Mercedes GL, Audi Q7, Nissan Pathfinder and Lexus RX.
"This is a great achievement for the Discovery, which has proved
time and time again it is three cars in one. It has now won nearly 100
awards since launch in 2004, making it one of the most decorated
SUVs ever," said John Edwards, Land Rover UK managing director.
Alan Kidd, editor of Planet 4x4 added: "This is probably the most
intense scrutiny a group of 4x4s has ever been put under. Our testers
crawled all over each of the 38 vehicles, examining every last detail of
what makes a car easy to live with.
"There are some incredibly clever packaging solutions out there
- but nothing to beat the Discovery 3. From its handy double glove
box to its brilliant seat-folding system, it sets the standard for load
carrying and does a proper job of taking seven fully grown adults. It's
a perfectly executed example of how a vehicle's interior should be,
and richly deserves the title of Britain's Most Practical 4x4."
The seven-seat Discovery 3 GS is available on the road from
£29,815 which includes a CO2 offset for the first 45,000 miles.

LAND ROVER OFF-ROAD TRAINING FOR NATIONAL
GRID ENGINEERS
Land Rover has won a contract to deliver a dedicated training
programme for National Grid Wireless, the leading provider of large
scale transmission infrastructure to broadcasters and mobile
telecommunications operators in the UK. The training course has
been developed to enable engineers who drive 4x4 vehicles to cope
with adverse conditions on and off road.
The National Grid Wireless announcement comes hard on the
heels of an order to supply 49 Discovery 3 vehicles to the Highways
Agency, the organisation responsible for maintaining and operating
England's motorways and major A roads. Land Rover will be
providing expert tuition for the Highways Agency.
Land Rover's UK Marketing Director, Andy Griffiths, said: "We
work with emergency services, police, and ambulance teams across
the country. With nearly 60 years of experience in overcoming the
elements and negotiating any terrain, we have a wealth of experience
to share with organisations such as National Grid Wireless.”
Peter Sanders, General Manager, Operational Services, at
National Grid Wireless, added: “This specifically tailored training
programme will ensure that the company’s field operations team has
the knowledge and ability to use 4x4 vehicles safely and effectively;
in all weather conditions and terrains.”
There are nine Land Rover Experiences throughout the UK, each
with its own unique off-road course featuring some of the most
challenging surfaces and terrain any driver could encounter. They
provide the perfect setting in which to develop confidence and skill
under expert tuition from highly trained instructors.
Land Rover supplies a quarter of the global aid agency market
and is involved in numerous important conservation programmes
worldwide, which are hugely beneficial to local communities.
Without the use of Land Rovers, some of their rescue missions
or emergency operations would be impossible.
Nearly two-thirds of the Land Rovers produced since 1948 are
still being driven, many in conditions where no other vehicle is capable
of being used.

The Land Rover Freelander 2 has won the title of Scottish SUV of the
Year at the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers' (ASMW) annual
awards ceremony in St Andrew's this evening.
The all-new Land Rover Freelander 2 received the majority vote
from the ASMW members in this category, fighting off competition
from the new Honda CR-V, the Nissan X-TRAIL, Subaru Tribeca,
Citroën C-Crosser, Peugeot 4007 and the Mitsubishi Outlander.
Presenting the award, ASMW President Stephen Park said:
"Numerous new SUVs have been launched during the past 12 months.
Some offer unrivalled off-road ability, others refined on-road
manners, some dwarf everything else on the road while others are
smaller than some family hatchbacks. But ultimately, one 4x4
impressed the judges more than all the rest. Winning by a bigger margin
than any other category winner, our choice looks good, feels good
and has real pedigree breeding."
Land Rover UK's managing director, John Edwards, said: "We are
absolutely delighted to win this award for Freelander 2 from the
Association of Scottish Motoring Writers. It is yet another testament
to its dynamic design, all round capability and its smart and spacious
interior package."
"Scotland is an important area for Land Rover's UK business,
with sales up 21 per cent so far this year. The geography of the region
means that an SUV is a practical choice for many customers."
The Freelander 2 is on-sale at Land Rover dealerships throughout
the UK, priced from £20,935, including the contribution to offset
carbon dioxide emissions. It has already sold over 15,000 units in the
UK this year.
The biggest selling model is still the TD4 manual with a combined
fuel economy figure of 37.7mpg and CO2 emissions of
194g/km.
