OLD BUSINESS
City Participation In The North Brevard County Economic Development Zone - City
Manager Ryan advised the City Council held a workshop with the Chairman of the Board
of the County Commissioners, District 1 Commissioner Robin Fisher, regarding the
proposed Economic Development Zone. Presented at that workshop was what the
County Commission had adopted as of May 24, 2011. There would be a final public
hearing before the County Commissioners on July 12, 2011.
The recommended action was to approve the following:
• Approve the City’s participation in the North Brevard County Economic
Development Zone (NBCEDZ) and direct staff to move forward with the
appropriate resolution and ordinance necessary to participate in the NBCEDZ
consistent with the staff recommendation.
• Authorize the City Manager to send a letter notifying the Property Appraiser of
the City’s intent to participate in the NBCEDZ.
• Authorize elected officials and staff to address the County Commission indicating
the City’s approval to participate in the NBCEDZ.
Member Burson asked whether the level of participation could be altered if needed in the
future.
City Attorney Severs advised it could be modified or altered if needed. The only
provision would be if the City participated in bonding that required a commitment for the
life of that bond, the City had to maintain that level of funding.
Mayor Tulley opened the public hearing.
