ArchitecturAl And environmentAl trends
Design trends are a direct result to changing
social, economical and ecological influences.
Today’s architecture is eco-responsible
and sustainable, combined with a design
spectrum ranging from “minimalist” to fully
exposed.
The consideration of energy efficiency and
environmental impact (CO 2
footprint, waste,
recycled content, recyclability) of building
materials is paramount in the design and
construction phases of the building.
Interior finishes equally set the levels of
comfort and work efficiency when the space
is occupied.
Ceilings, representing the largest exposed
interior finish in a building, are a key
contributor towards defining the aesthetics,
acoustics and lighting performance of building
interiors.
Whether considering an exposed structure
that utilises the thermal mass properties
of the concrete slab or creating a wall to
wall ceiling surface, Armstrong offers ceiling
designs, materials and performances to
complement architectural concepts, ranging
from monolithic to discountinous visuals.
■ OPTIMA CANOPY
■ ULTIMA CANOPY
■ ORCAL CANOPY
■ AXIOM CANOPY
■ INFUSIONS CANOPY
In response to new architectural trends calling for acoustical and
design solutions using exposed soffits and to address the increasing
focus on end users’ well being, Armstrong has designed a range
of discontinuous ceilings to deliver the highest quality of workplace
standards whilst supporting the original architectural concept.
Available to be designed in an exposed structure project
or to complement an existing wall to wall ceiling solution, canopy
elements may be:
■ Visually striking for a contemporary accent;
■ Aesthetically integrated and non obtrusive with an emphasis
on performance;
■ Coloured to create contrast and rhythm;
■ Shaped to coordinate with furniture;
■ Grouped to replicate key architectural features;
■ Curved to create a cocooning effect and an intimate setting;
■ Textured or microperforated to suit design themes;
■ Retrofitted under an existing wall to wall solution providing
a “destructured” visual;
■ Intelligent, loaded with technology and service elements;
■ Environmental friendly, with “no waste” on site;
■ Custom because …you are one of a kind!
ORCAL Canopy is part of Armstrong’s
extensive range of discontinuous ceilings and
canopies. The canopies come in three different
designs (flat, concave and convex) and give
the designer or specifier the ability to:
■ Create spaces or areas within larger
spaces or rooms, adding definition and
local acoustic comfort (speech intelligibility)
to an area or working zone.
■ Provide a high level of design flexibility as
the canopies come in three different designs
and can be used independently or as
groups and arrays.
The panels come with a high durability paint
finish as standard, making them easy to clean
and maintain. The canopies have an Extra
Microperforation pattern that provides
a clean visual with good acoustical and light
reflectance performances.
The canopy is fully enclosed ensuring that if
the reverse face is visible it fully compliments
the design.
Monolithic SolutionS...
Suspended ceiling systems have moved from providing mainly
functional features (masking the building’s infrastructure whilst
providing accessibility) to contributing on a much greater scale
to the interior design, acoustics and overall environmental impacts
with such innovations as tech Zone. daylight optimisation with
high ceiling tile light reflectance values has led to the increasing
consideration of whiter and larger modules with finer textures.
Aiming at minimising aesthetical intrusions in the ceiling plan,
Armstrong has further developed vector, an edge detail producing
a concealed grid and more monolithic look. In spaces where eye
catching visuals are the main drive, Armstrong’s research in designer
grids has also exciting new avenues to generate rhythm in the ceiling
plane with the Interlude range.
non laMinated
this classic range of products provides a blend of performance, quality
and affordability for which the Armstrong ceiling brand is famous.
the range of dUNE finishes highlights the core line of ceilings from
Armstrong. these finely textured visuals, either plain or perforated,
provide good levels of sound absorption and sound attenuation. Our
latest ‘MAx’ versions of both DUNE SUPREME and CIRRUS offer
increased levels of absorption whilst the DUNE dB range provides
high levels of sound attenuation.
decorative
DUNE SUPREME
the Armstrong decorative range recognises that there are many areas
within a building where a designer or end user would like to express
a theme, or use the ceiling to create added interest within a space.
From the modern geometric designs of the GRAPHIS range or by
using colour such as the COLORTONE ranges through to the subtle
CIRRUS texture and designs, Armstrong has a wide range
of designs and colours to help sculpt the light in a space.
OPtIMA is a low density product with
glass wool as core material. Its white
and strong surface is obtained by the
application of an abrasion resistant paint
on a glass fibre face scrim.
the Board edges are painted to avoid
the dispersion of fibres. to provide
excellent mechanical strength, all products
have a fibre glass fleece at the back and
the tegular & MicroLook edges are
reinforced and painted.
OPtIMA provides the highest levels of
sound absorption with an aw up to 1.00.
this makes it an ideal product for open
plan offices, cafeterias, or any other
places where too much noise can be
disruptive.
Its fine textured white surface, similar
to the ULtIMA finish (see p. 47), makes it
an ideal solution in terms of aesthetics.
Furthermore, OPtIMA provides high light
reflectance and good cleanability.
the vector edge detail results from
Armstrong’s advanced technology.
It conceals the grid and gives the
impression that tiles are freely
suspended from wall to wall.
In addition, OPtIMA ceilings are
available in a large variety of size
and edge detail combinations.
NEvAdA is a low density product with
rock wool as the core material. the face
scrim is made of glass fibre with a bright
white paint. the product is also available
in eight trendy colours.
the Board edges are painted to avoid
the dispersion of fibres.
tegular and MicroLook products are
reinforced due to a higher density
and the strong paint on the edges which
improves the mechanical strength.
All products have a fibre glass fleece
on the back to add additional strength.
NEvAdA achieves excellent sound
absorption with an a W up to 1.00.
Many size and edge detail combinations
offer extensive design opportunities.
CERAMAGUARD is made of a unique high
density ceramic and mineral composite.
This material provides 100% RH resistance
including standing water and is resistant
to chemical fumes.
The product is durable, washable and
scrubbable.
It’s a totally inorganic product, resistant
to growth of mold, mildew and bacteria.
CERAMAGUARD provides good sound
absorption and is ideal for swimming pools,
locker rooms, shower areas and indoor
parking garages.
Note: Cermaguard must be installed on Trulok Corrosive
Resistant 24 mm grid where humidity regularly exceeds
90% RH.
CERAMAGUARD may need to have Main Runners at
600 mm centres due to increased weight in high humidity
conditions.
NEWTONE is a hydrated calcium silicate
ceiling tile particularly suitable for use
in areas subject to extremes of humidity
and temperature.
In addition it is ideal for use in industrial
or semi-exposed locations or where
condensation and resistance to damage
are important considerations.
In all environments where humidity conditions could
regularly reach and/or exceed 90% RH we recommend
the use of our Trulok Corrosion Resistant grids and
associated accessories.
