4. Guidelines for Representations of Designs
Introduction
Designs can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional and each design should be
shown graphically in representations.
You may wish to lodge several different views of your design in order to fully and
accurately show the design.
Mode of Representations
1. The representations of your design must be either in the form of photographs
or drawings which should be visually clear, of good quality and be suitable for
reproduction.
2. If your representations consist of photographs, the photographs should be
clear original prints. Photocopies of photographs or scanned photocopies of the
same are not acceptable as these may be poorly reproduced and would not show
the details of your design. If you are manually filing your application, the
photographs you submit should be mounted on good quality A4 size paper.
3. All photographs should be of matte finish and should show the article against
a plain contrasting background. Any extraneous articles that are not intended to
form part of the design must be excluded.
4. If your representations consist of drawings, your drawings must be
accurately drawn on good quality A4 sized white and the drawings must be of welldefined,
even black lines. Rough-hand sketches are not acceptable.
5. For applications filed online, the image files must be in JPEG format only.
The image file name should not contain any spaces or special characters. [! @ # $

Views of Representations
1. The “best” visual angle of the design is usually the perspective view. This
should be submitted as the Annex A on the application form. The view submitted as
the Annex A will be the view that is published in the Designs Journal.
2. The drawings or photographs should contain a sufficient number of views to
completely disclose the appearance of the claimed design, for example, front, rear,
right and left sides, top and bottom views.
3. Cross section views of your design should not be submitted unless it is to
clearly show the appearance and shape of three-dimensional designs.
