<strong>Parks</strong> <strong>and</strong> Natural Open Space Department (continued)<br />

Goals <strong>and</strong> Objectives for <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Budget</strong><br />

• Endeavor to ensure the clean <strong>and</strong> orderly appearance of the parks, natural open space <strong>and</strong><br />

outdoor facilities while protecting the health, safety <strong>and</strong> enjoyment of the people using<br />

them. (District Goals #2GO)<br />

• Utilize the knowledge, experience <strong>and</strong> dedication of Departmental staff to meet the<br />

objectives of maintenance <strong>and</strong> upkeep of the park l<strong>and</strong>s, natural open spaces <strong>and</strong> outdoor<br />

facilities even under financial constraints. (District Goals #2GO)<br />

• Provide <strong>and</strong> ensure clear communication, honest answers <strong>and</strong> responses to the questions<br />

<strong>and</strong> concerns of the public in a professional <strong>and</strong> timely manner. (District Goals #2GO)<br />

• Conversion of 8.49 acres of low-use turf areas to natural open space. (District Goals<br />

#2GO)<br />

• Develop a Community Garden Program within the District. (District Goals #2GO)<br />

• In addition to the maintenance of new projects, continue with philosophy of “Maintaining<br />

What We Have” which includes irrigation system upgrades, vehicle <strong>and</strong> equipment<br />

replacement, concrete <strong>and</strong> asphalt replacement, tree replacement, athletic field<br />

renovations, tennis court repairs, facility renovations of shelters, ball fields, backstops,<br />

fencing, etc., routine trail refurbishing, water <strong>and</strong> energy conservation, recycling<br />

program, District-wide weed management, S.T.A.R.P.R. Program (Safety, Teamwork,<br />

Accountability, Respect, Partnerships, <strong>and</strong> Resource Conservation), park<br />

reservations/access permit monitoring, privatization of mowing services in twenty-three<br />

parks, privatization of park fertilization, maintenance <strong>and</strong> upkeep of the synthetic turf at<br />

David A. Lorenz Regional Park, <strong>and</strong> use of volunteers <strong>and</strong> community service workers<br />

for numerous projects, particularly at <strong>South</strong> Platte Park. (District Goals #2GO)<br />

• During the first several months of the year, staff will continue the transition/move to the<br />

<strong>South</strong> <strong>Suburban</strong> Service Center from the Jamison site to the new location. This will<br />

entail a complete transfer of all offices, vehicles <strong>and</strong> equipment, fuel tanks, maintenance<br />

related materials <strong>and</strong> supplies, etc. Staff will also assist in accommodating the purchaser<br />

of the Jamison site with any information, records, etc. as necessary. (District Goals<br />

#2GO)<br />

Mission<br />

The mission of the <strong>Recreation</strong> Services <strong>and</strong> Facilities Department is to provide citizens with<br />

a variety of recreation programs for fun <strong>and</strong> enjoyment!<br />
