Dear Fellow Members:
ALAN YUSPEH
HCCA President
I am writing this as we have
completed a fabulous Annual
Compliance Institute in New
Orleans. We had some 1,000 people
in attendance, and everyone
agreed that the quality of the
program was exceptionally high.
For those who attended, thank
you for making this such a success.
And for those who could not
be with us this year, please try to
come next spring. It is clear that
if you can attend one national
compliance meeting a year, this
is the one to attend!
I wanted to recognize the extraordinary
job that was done by our
Conference Program Chair, Dan
Roach, the compliance officer for
Catholic Healthcare West. Dan
showed great vision in creating a
program that had both depth and
breadth. We should all be grateful
to him for providing such an
excellent educational opportunity.
I want to also recognize the
excellent support provided by
Roy Snell, Erin O’Donnell,
and the HCCA staff in making
the conference run so
smoothly.
The other facet of this program
about which I’m so excited is that it is truly a celebration
of the constantly increasing professionalism of our work
as health care compliance officers. Increasingly, as we get to
know one another, these meetings are like a family reunion.
They are a chance to network with our colleagues and to
continue to professionalize the field of health care compliance.
The next major HCCA program is our joint effort with the
American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) in late
September. This promises to be an exceptional session as well.
Please try to be there.
Finally, in the near future, we will begin the process of electing
several members to the HCCA Board of Directors. I want
to encourage those of you who have a commitment to
HCCA’s long-term success to consider applying to serve on
our Board, or, if you prefer, nominating someone else to
serve. We have an enormously qualified Board at this time,
and we want to make certain that it remains strong and
reflective of HCCA’s membership. ■
