7.1.3 The Maps show that social deprivation is
concentrated mostly in the northern, north-eastern,
and south-eastern and to a lesser extent south-central
parts of Bangladesh. Based on the analysis of social
deprivation using the social deprivation index 34 , the
top and bottom 15 districts and 30 upazilas are also
presented in Tables 7.1 and 7.2 below. Comparison of
the pockets of social deprivation using both methods
is presented at the end of the report in Annex 4.
Ranking of districts and upazilas using CDI are also
presented at the end of the report in Annex 5A and
5B respectively.

Social deprivation index has the supremacy over deprivation count because of the construction under each of them. However,
results obtained from both the methods have been reported at the end of the chapter for comparison.
