Preparations used in the treatment of anxiety and tension, e.g. benzodiazepines,<br />

should be classified in this group.<br />

The group is subdivided on the basis of chemical structure.<br />

Benzodiazepine derivatives<br />

Benzodiazepines should be classified in this group, despite the fact that in<br />

veterinary medicine these agents are often used for specific indications, e.g. as<br />

premedication for anesthesia combined with other sedatives or anesthetics, or for<br />

indications like apetite stimulation. Benzodiazepines used mainly in the treatment<br />

of sleep disturbances in human medicine are classified in QN05C - Hypnotics and<br />

sedatives.<br />

Benzodiazepines used mainly in the treatment of epilepsy are classified in<br />

QN03 - Antiepileptics.<br />

Benzodiazepines in combination with general anesthetics are classified in QN01A.<br />
