Dear Fellow Members, 

The agenda for our Fall Technical Seminar is filled with sessions which should prove both interesting and 

valuable for your business! The Conference Committee has worked diligently to put together a meeting 

based on the feedback that we received from surveys, calls to headquarters, as well as conversations 

we have had at previous meetings. To that end, we have restructured the way we build our content, 

aligning sessions to a central theme which will provide you and your Techs with information that can be 

implemented immediately upon return to the office. 

The theme for the 2013 Fall Technical Seminar is “Safety and Compliance”. Each session will address 

topics within this theme and will provide specific and measurable solutions to the everyday issues of the 

KEC business. Our speakers are all experts in their field and are prepared to help us find solutions to the 

hazards we are faced with day in and day out. 

Our sponsorship is growing and we have a terrific group of suppliers who will be in attendance to provide 

you with the tricks and tools of the trade. The Product Training and Education portion of our meeting is 

designed to not only enlighten our members as to the products currently offered by the vendors, but as a 

way for them to get feedback on their products to better support our work in the field. This is an excellent

IKECA’s American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Consensus 

Body convenes at each face-to-face meeting to continue their work 

on the development of IKECA’s industry standards. The focus of the 

Consensus Body, in addition to reviewing the summary and recommendations 

from the first audit conducted by ANSI, will be on the first 

draft of the Inspection Standard. These meetings are open to observers 

however are not eligible for CEUs. 

Associate Member/Sponsor/Exhibitor Luncheon with Board 

October 9, 2013, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm 

Associate Members, sponsors and exhibitors are invited to attend 

lunch with the board of directors. This is an excellent opportunity to 

get to know IKECA’s leadership and share feedback and ideas on how

Dine around dinners provide attendees with a great opportunity to 

meet new members or reconnect with colleagues and suppliers. Reservations

101: OSHA 10 Hour Training & Certification* Part I

The OSHA 10 hour course covers OSHA policies, procedures, and 

regulations, as well as safety and health principles. Topics include 

scope and application of the OSHA standards. Special emphasis is 

placed on those areas that are the most hazardous in the hood and 

grease duct cleaning business, using OSHA standards as a guide. 

Attendees will learn: 

• How to apply OSHA regulations into their everyday business 

• Identification and control of hazards 

• Where to begin? and, What if OSHA shows up at my project or

changes in the OSHA Hazard Communication 

Standard based on the Globally Harmonized 

System (GHS) and help prepare

to workers. The GHS training is mandated to 

be accomplished by December 1, 2013 and 

all employees must understand the changes 

in labeling, MSDS vs. SDS, and key phrases, 

pictograms and hazard descriptions included 

in the GHS. All participants will receive a free CD full of training

and the OSHA Standard side-by-side version with all changes to the 

Hazard Communication Standard.

The IKECA Technical Seminar will take place at The Hyatt Regency 

Phoenix. IKECA has negotiated a group rate, and the Hyatt is offering 

IKECA attendees a special rate of $125 per night, (plus tax, currently 

13.27% and subject to change) for single or double occupancy. The 

special rate will be offered until Tuesday, September 20, 2013 or until 

the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first. Reservations made 

after this date will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at 

the nearest available rate. IKECA cannot guarantee rooms outside the 

meeting dates.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is approximately 4 

miles (about 15 minutes) from the hotel. For more information on the

SHUTTLE SERVICE 

Super Shuttle will take you from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to 

the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. Guests may proceed directly to the hotel 

pickup area outside the baggage claim to get on the Super Shuttle.

Exit the airport onto Interstate 10 West. Take Interstate 10 west to exit 

145A, the 7th St. exit. From the exit, go south onto 7th St. to Van Buren

onto 2nd St. one block. Hyatt Regency Phoenix entrance is one block

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received in writing by September 27, 2013 to receive a refund and are subject to a $100 processing fee. 

Deadline: Forms must be received by September 27, 2013 or you will have the option to register onsite. 

Dine Around Dinners: This is a great networking opportunity, especially if you arrive on Wednesday and/or are new to IKECA. Reservations will be made at 

various restaurants in Phoenix. Attendees are responsible for all fees associated with transportation and food and beverage. If you would like to participate, 

please note this on the registration form above. Registrations will be available on a first come, first-served basis. A member of the IKECA Management Team 

will contact you with available restaurant selections. 

Spouse/Companion Registration: Spouses/companions who register at the full access rate are eligible to attend all events throughout the course of the 

Seminar. Spouses/companions who wish to attend just the Thursday evening reception may register for that event separately. 

*OSHA: The OSHA registration fee is mandatory to obtain your OSHA 10-Hour Certification; you must register in advance, attend the full 10-hour course and 

take the exam. Attendees not pursuing certification may still participate in OSHA for CEUs. 

**Tech One Day Pass: The Friday only, one-day pass allows members to send their field technicians for part of the Seminar without taking them out of the 

office for more than a day. If they are planning to sit for a certification exam, please make sure they complete and send in a completed exam application.
