When you behold the elephant his herd of subjects br<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
The elephant of sixty years, <strong>and</strong> hear his trumpet<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
To hear the sound you will forget that ever you were k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
The woodl<strong>and</strong> glades, the roar<strong>in</strong>g beasts, <strong>and</strong> every wished-for th<strong>in</strong>g<br />
When you behold, you will forget that ever you were k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
The deer that come at eventide, the varied flowers that spr<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
The danc<strong>in</strong>g frogs—you will forget that ever you were k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
When you shall hear the rivers roar, the fairy creatures s<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
Believe me, you will clean forget that ever you were k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
When you shall hear the screech-owl's note <strong>in</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong> cave dwell<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

Rh<strong>in</strong>oceros <strong>and</strong> buffalo, that make the woodl<strong>and</strong> r<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

When on the mounta<strong>in</strong> top you see the peacock dance <strong>and</strong> spr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

To see the egg-born peacock dance <strong>and</strong> spread his gorgeous w<strong>in</strong>g<br />

The peacock with his purple neck, to see him dance <strong>and</strong> spr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

The bimbajāla, kuṭaja, <strong>and</strong> lotus, 1 scatter<strong>in</strong>g<br />

When <strong>in</strong> the w<strong>in</strong>ter you behold the forest flower<strong>in</strong>g<br />
