ASPHALT REVIEW
The flexible pavements industry has a good
health and safety record understanding
we are working with hot bitumen, with
heavy equipment and often near to
moving traffic. However, we must strive
to always improve, to always do better.
Zero health and safety incidents must be
the ultimately aim of our industry.
AAPA’s successful Health and Safety
Conference which has just finished is one
of the initiatives our association leads
to support our industry to continually
improve its health and safety performance.
Always considering road closure, managing
signage, providing safe equipment and
training are just some of the issues that
were discussed at the conference and
are issues we should always take into
account.
The conference also provided the
opportunity for workshops to bring
together experts across out industry and
AAPA will be using those discussions to
continue in its role of supporting our
industry.
The discussions at the Conference
supported the need for everyone in our
industry to always be vigilant and take
responsibility for health and safety.
With the support of our members we
will soon be providing key lag indicators
such as lost time injury and medical
treatment frequency rates to provide an
understanding of the actual performance
of the overall industry, the trends, and
allowing each member to understand how
they compare.
The AAPA Health and Safety
conference highlighted just one of the
Louis Nucifora,
Chairman, AAPA
ways that AAPA helps our industry.
AAPA does a lot more for our industry
than just holding successful conference.
It also represents our industry in a
number of ways including to state road
authorities in each state and nationally.
It also manages number of projects
including the recent $1 million warm
mix asphalt validation project which
is featured in this edition of Asphalt
Review.
AAPA and the AAPA Board is committed
to supporting and growing our industry,
achieving the goals set in its Strategic
Plan. These focus on achieving a
sustainable, profitable and safe industry
that recognises the importance benefits
of flexible pavements for the benefit of
its members and all road users. Moving
forward, I look forward to next reporting
on our progress over the last year and
the outlook for the year ahead.
Pavement Association (AAPA) is now also produced as a supplement
of this and future issues of the Asphalt Review will continue via the
AAPA web site: www.aapa.asn.au in addition to its inclusion in
ROADS magazine.
