The Graduate School’s Executive Programs are designed for pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with at least<br />

five years <strong>of</strong> managerial experience. Each class has approximately 25–30 participants<br />

who progress through the program as a group. The pr<strong>of</strong>essional backgrounds <strong>of</strong> the<br />

class members are vital to the learning experience, which is further enhanced through a<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> teaching methods. In addition, group participation and interaction over the<br />

course <strong>of</strong> the seminars is designed to contribute significantly to a broader understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizational issues.<br />

Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration<br />

The Executive Program for the Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration (MBA) is designed<br />

for busy pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. This accelerated 21-month program enables career-minded individuals<br />

with at least five years <strong>of</strong> managerial experience to make full use <strong>of</strong> their management<br />

skills while meeting degree requirements. Courses are delivered through a<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> classroom seminars and online study. Special features <strong>of</strong> the Executive<br />

Program for the MBA include an integrated curriculum focusing on real-world applications,<br />

a global business perspective, a distinctive closing strategy project with a corporate<br />

sponsor, management assessment and leadership development through the<br />

National Leadership Institute, and an international study trip.<br />

Overview<br />

The program consists <strong>of</strong> seven seminars. Each seminar includes examinations, papers,<br />

and/or presentations. The end-<strong>of</strong>-program project in XMBA 607 is the capstone learning<br />

experience that provides participants with a unique opportunity to plan and complete<br />

a strategic or operational business plan for a sponsor organization.<br />

Program Requirements<br />

In addition to the general admission requirements, applicants must have a minimum <strong>of</strong><br />

five years <strong>of</strong> managerial experience and a current position as a mid- or senior-level manager.<br />

Qualified candidates will have a personal interview with the program director. All<br />

participants must have access to a computer and the Internet, and a working knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware programs as described on p. 30.<br />

Formats/Locations<br />

Executive Program classes for the MBA are held at a single UMUC site in the<br />

Washington, D.C., metropolitan area throughout the 21-month program. The classes<br />

are held every other Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are supplemented with<br />

UMUC’s online (Web-based) instruction to provide maximum flexibility and convenience.<br />

Instruction includes lectures, case studies, structured discussions, guest speakers,<br />

videos, computer exercises, written projects, and oral presentations.<br />
