Master <strong>of</strong> Science in Health Care Administration/Master <strong>of</strong><br />

Business Administration<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the dual Master <strong>of</strong> Science (MS) in health care administration/Master<br />

<strong>of</strong> Business Administration (MBA) is to combine the specialized and focused knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> health care administration in the MS with the business expertise <strong>of</strong> the MBA.<br />

Dual degree students may increase their depth <strong>of</strong> knowledge in the administration <strong>of</strong><br />

health care services and programs through a variety <strong>of</strong> general management and health<br />

care administration courses and then expand their knowledge <strong>of</strong> more general management<br />

issues through three MBA seminars.<br />

Program Requirements<br />

Students who are interested in pursuing dual degrees must meet the admission requirements<br />

<strong>of</strong> each program. Information on the MS in health care administration may be<br />

found on p. 61; the MBA is described on p. 39.<br />

Formats/Locations<br />

Classes in the MS in health care administration are <strong>of</strong>fered online and at <strong>College</strong> Park<br />

and the Shady Grove Center. MBA classes for students in dual degree programs are<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered online only. Students should check the current Graduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes to<br />

determine when courses will be <strong>of</strong>fered at specific locations.<br />

Students with at least five years <strong>of</strong> managerial experience may be eligible to complete all<br />

or part <strong>of</strong> the MBA portion <strong>of</strong> the dual degree program in an accelerated executive format;<br />

more information is on pp. 95–96.<br />

Curriculum Requirements<br />

Students must first complete the requirements for the MS in health care administration<br />

(detailed on p. 61).<br />

To complete the MBA, students must then complete the following seminars:<br />

AMBA 603D The Marketing <strong>of</strong> New Ideas (6)<br />

AMBA 604D Technology and Operations Management (6)<br />

AMBA 606D Organizations and the External Environment (6)<br />
