XTMN 605 Operational Performance and<br />

Human Resources (6)<br />

This seminar focuses on operational tools, techniques, and<br />

methodologies to improve operational effectiveness and gain<br />

competitive advantage. Program participants learn operations<br />

methods and skills that are used for planning, control, and internal<br />

management. The needs <strong>of</strong> both internal and external customers<br />

are addressed using consistently high and continuously<br />

improving quality products and services. Methodologies to<br />

implement both functional and nonfunctional processes are<br />

discussed. Organizational culture, business ethics, and effective<br />

management strategies are introduced to foster an understanding<br />

<strong>of</strong> workplace behavior and motivation in technology-based<br />

organizations. S<strong>of</strong>tware for implementing process improvements<br />

and process management is introduced, and program participants<br />

develop competencies in applying this s<strong>of</strong>tware to practical<br />

problems including their team-based technology business<br />

ventures. Program participants will submit the third installment<br />

<strong>of</strong> their journals identifying the re l e vance <strong>of</strong> the content <strong>of</strong> XTMN<br />

605 to the ve n t u re created at the conclusion <strong>of</strong> XTMN 602.<br />

XTMN 606 Business Law and Global Management—<br />

Capstone (6)<br />

In this seminar, several topics are discussed in relation to the<br />

context <strong>of</strong> earlier seminars, including problem solving and decision<br />

making, legal considerations affecting responsible management<br />

with an emphasis on legal issues in the technology arena,<br />

and the problems and opportunities <strong>of</strong> competing in the international<br />

domain. In the capstone activity, program participants<br />

will present the applications <strong>of</strong> material covered in the program<br />

to the original business ventures developed in XTMN 601 and<br />

602 (or to their actual workplace) as described in their journals.<br />

Program participants will finalize the capstone exercise. Program<br />

participants will submit the final version <strong>of</strong> their journals identifying<br />

the relevance <strong>of</strong> the content <strong>of</strong> all studied material in the<br />

program to the venture created at the conclusion <strong>of</strong> XTMN 602<br />

or the actual workplace selected.<br />
