Information Resources Management<br />
(15 credits)<br />
The certificate in Information Resources Management represents<br />
the most general certificate in the Information Technology<br />
Systems area. Course content includes exposure to the most<br />
common challenges faced by the IT generalist in the public or<br />
private sector. This certificate is particularly desirable for persons<br />
with limited formal study or little work experience in the IT<br />
field. All courses apply to the MS in computer systems management<br />
degree.<br />
Students must take the following courses:<br />
S<strong>of</strong>tware Development Management<br />
(15 credits)<br />
The certificate in S<strong>of</strong>tware Development Management provides<br />
technical managers and computer pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with the technical<br />
foundations and management insights needed to participate<br />
in and manage phases <strong>of</strong> the s<strong>of</strong>tware/systems life cycle. The<br />
emphasis is not on learning to write s<strong>of</strong>tware programs, but on<br />
managing the process <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware development. Familiarity with<br />
a high-level programming language is desirable. All courses<br />
apply to the MS in computer systems management degree.<br />

Information Technology (15 credits)<br />
The certificate in Information Technology is intended for those<br />
students interested in a technical curriculum that covers a broad<br />
range <strong>of</strong> information technology topics. The certificate addresses<br />
computer science, telecommunications, and engineering principles.<br />
Students entering this certificate program must meet all<br />
the requirements for admission to the MS in information technology<br />
program. All courses apply to the MS in information<br />
technology degree.<br />
Students must take the following course:<br />
MSIT 610 Foundations <strong>of</strong> Information Technology (3)<br />
Students must choose four <strong>of</strong> the following courses:<br />

MSWE 645 System and S<strong>of</strong>tware Standards and Requirements (3)<br />
MSWE 646 S<strong>of</strong>tware Design and Implementation (3)<br />
MSWE 647 S<strong>of</strong>tware Verification and Validation (3)<br />
MSWE 648 S<strong>of</strong>tware Maintenance (3)<br />
Students must also choose one elective from CSMN, TLMN, or<br />

S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering (15 credits)<br />
The certificate in S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering is intended for those<br />
students interested in the foundation and issues <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
engineering. The certificate addresses s<strong>of</strong>tware development and<br />
design issues. Students entering this certificate program must meet<br />
all <strong>of</strong> the requirements for admission to the Master <strong>of</strong> S<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
Engineering (MSwE) program. All courses apply to the MSwE<br />
degree.<br />
