Distance Education and Technology<br />

(12 credits)<br />

The certificate in Distance Education and Technology is intended<br />

to place the study <strong>of</strong> contemporary educational technologies in<br />

the context <strong>of</strong> the goals <strong>of</strong> educational and training organizations<br />

and to provide students with some in-depth knowledge and<br />

experience with the primary distance education technologies in<br />

use today.<br />

Students must take two <strong>of</strong> the following courses:<br />

Foundations <strong>of</strong> Distance Education (12 credits)<br />

The certificate in Foundations <strong>of</strong> Distance Education is intended<br />

to represent the study <strong>of</strong> the four basic foundational aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

the field <strong>of</strong> distance education: history and theory, media and<br />

technology, economics, and support <strong>of</strong> the student.<br />

Library Services in Distance Education<br />

(12 credits)<br />

The certificate in Library Services in Distance Education will<br />

provide in-depth information in the history, theory, and organizational<br />

structure <strong>of</strong> distance education, and the role <strong>of</strong> library<br />

services within organizations. Emphasis is on the selection and<br />

application <strong>of</strong> appropriate technologies, particularly with reference<br />

to library services.<br />

Students must take the following courses:<br />

OMDE 601 Foundations <strong>of</strong> Distance Education (3)<br />

OMDE 603 Technology in Distance Education (3)<br />

OMDE 611 Distance Education Library Services (3)<br />

Students must also choose one elective from the Master <strong>of</strong><br />

Distance Education program.<br />

Teaching at a Distance (12 credits)<br />

The certificate in Teaching at a Distance is intended for people<br />

seeking to teach at a distance in their organizations. It is intended<br />

to provide the student with teaching and learning concepts and<br />

teaching skills and methods that are appropriate to a distance<br />

education and training context.<br />

The certificate in Training at a Distance is intended to provide<br />

the student with a broad range <strong>of</strong> knowledge about and skills in<br />

the application <strong>of</strong> distance education and training within business,<br />

industry, government, and nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations.<br />

Students must take the following courses:<br />

OMDE 601 Foundations <strong>of</strong> Distance Education (3)<br />

OMDE 621 Training at a Distance (3)<br />

OMDE 622 The Business <strong>of</strong> Distance Education (3)<br />

Students must also choose one elective from the Master <strong>of</strong><br />
