PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS:<br />

OFFICE BY Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 NO LATER THAN 2:00 PM.<br />

The following scholarships are open to seniors in the top third of the class who<br />

academically meet the individual scholarship criteria.<br />

1. Ruby E. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship<br />

This scholarship is in memory of Ruby E. Wheeler <strong>and</strong> is awarded to students who have demonstrated highest<br />

consistent achievement in all academic areas. (Scholarship awards change from year to year.)<br />

2. Helen Cvanciger Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a female, ranking in the top twenty percent of her class over four<br />

years ($2,000 the first two years <strong>and</strong> $3,000 the next two years) pending acceptable progress towards a business<br />

degree. Preference will be awarded to students demonstrating financial need.<br />

3. National Council of Jewish Women Scholarship<br />

This $1,500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating female who has demonstrated good academics, participation<br />

in school activities, <strong>and</strong> outst<strong>and</strong>ing community service.<br />

4. Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers Scholarship<br />

This $1,200 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in education.<br />

Student must have demonstrated scholarship, citizenship <strong>and</strong> community service.<br />

5. Monsignor John Hayes Anderson Memorial Scholarship<br />

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors planning to attend an accredited four-year college,<br />

whose scholastic achievement, character, <strong>and</strong> service are consonant with Monsignor Anderson exemplary<br />

career.<br />

6. <strong>Stratford</strong> Educational Association/<strong>Stratford</strong> Administrator Association Scholarship<br />

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who exhibited outst<strong>and</strong>ing extra curricula activities<br />

<strong>and</strong> volunteer work, received exceptional recommendations from their teachers <strong>and</strong> guidance counselor,<br />

demonstrated four years of hard work evidenced by their high school grades, <strong>and</strong> displayed passion in their<br />

essay on their dedication <strong>and</strong> future plans of becoming an educator.<br />

7. Frances Christine Vodola Memorial Music Scholarship<br />

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has excelled in the area of classical music<br />

including voice.<br />

8. <strong>Stratford</strong> Recreation Department Scholarship<br />

This $600 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates good character, scholarship <strong>and</strong> must<br />

participate on the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> boys or girls Golf Team.<br />

9. Helen K. Barnish Scholarship<br />

A $500 scholarship is awarded by the Lordship Parent-Teachers Association, in honor of Helen K. Barnish,<br />

former principal of Lordship <strong>School</strong>, for scholastic ability <strong>and</strong> leadership.<br />

10. Albert Cioffari Memorial Award<br />

This $500 award is presented by the <strong>Stratford</strong> Public Works Local #134 to a graduating senior for outst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

academic performance in math courses <strong>and</strong> will pursue studies involving mathematics.<br />

11. Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Scholarship<br />

Two $500 scholarships are awarded to seniors who have proven success in all areas of academic achievement.<br />

Preference should be awarded to those students who work at a Subway Restaurant or next, to those students that<br />

are employed while attending school, have been accepted by an accredited college or university. Financial need<br />

is considered.<br />

12. Mildred Schilling Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> faculty in memory of Mrs. Schilling, to a student<br />

who has achieved high scholarship, possesses outst<strong>and</strong>ing character, <strong>and</strong> has actively participated in<br />

extracurricular activities.<br />

13. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Faculty Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by the faculty of <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> to an outst<strong>and</strong>ing member of the<br />

graduating class who possesses high scholarship, outst<strong>and</strong>ing character, <strong>and</strong> exemplary leadership qualities.<br />

14. <strong>Stratford</strong> Visiting Nurse Association Nursing Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who has maintained a B or better average <strong>and</strong> has been accepted<br />

at an accredited college/nursing school with the intent of receiving a degree or diploma in nursing <strong>and</strong><br />

becoming a registered nurse.<br />

15. Lorraine Florence Foell Hillgen Memorial Scholarship<br />

One $400 scholarship ($100 per year for four years) is awarded to a graduating senior who excelled<br />

academically <strong>and</strong> exemplifies the ideals by which Mrs. Hillgen lived life, which includes: enthusiasm,<br />

intelligence, self-motivation, diligence <strong>and</strong> an overwhelming generosity in helping others.<br />

16. American Legion Scholarship<br />

This $300 scholarship is awarded by the Anderson-Dunn-Kochiss Post No. 42, American Legion to a student<br />

who has been outst<strong>and</strong>ing in United States History.<br />

17. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Drama Society Scholarship<br />

Two $300 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or better, 4-<br />

year involvement in drama or music programs <strong>and</strong> are pursuing a college degree in Theatre Arts or music.<br />

18. Nichols <strong>School</strong> PTA Scholarship<br />

Two $300 scholarships are awarded to deserving graduates of Nichols <strong>School</strong> who have demonstrated good<br />

citizenship, integrity <strong>and</strong> academic responsibility.<br />

19. James C. & Mary E. Burns Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded to an outst<strong>and</strong>ing member of the graduating class who has displayed excellent<br />

academic achievement <strong>and</strong> citizenship.<br />

20. David Duckworth Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $250 scholarship is awarded to a member of the National Honor Society who is planning to continue<br />

his/her education in the science field. This includes: nursing, doctor, pharmacist, physical therapist, etc. The<br />

recipient must show financial need.<br />

21. <strong>Stratford</strong> Republican Party Award<br />

This $250 award is presented in memory of Karl Scholanick to a senior who has demonstrated outst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

qualities of scholarship <strong>and</strong> leadership in the area of social studies <strong>and</strong> has contributed service to the<br />

community.<br />

22. Michael Swirsky Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $250 scholarship is awarded in memory of Michael Swirsky to an individual who has exemplified<br />

scholastic <strong>and</strong> athletic ability.<br />

23. Maria Antidormi <strong>and</strong> Agnes Pruzinsky Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a student for scholarship, leadership, <strong>and</strong> athletic achievement.<br />

24. Buckmir Family Scholarship<br />

Two $200 scholarships are proudly awarded by the Buckmir family, Elizabeth ('81), Michael ('83), Edward<br />

('86) <strong>and</strong> their parents to a student who has displayed academic <strong>and</strong> athletic prowess during his/her years at<br />

<strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

25. Franklin <strong>School</strong> PTA Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Franklin <strong>School</strong> in honor of Miss Genevieve McCoy <strong>and</strong> Mr.<br />

Joseph Troiano. This scholarship is based on scholastic st<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> character. Students applying for this<br />

scholarship must have attended Franklin <strong>School</strong> for at least four years.<br />

26. Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 9460, Raymond T. Goldbach Memorial Award in honor of John<br />

Early<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to sons or daughters of a present or former member of the Armed Forces who<br />

is active in school programs <strong>and</strong> the community <strong>and</strong> also maintains good grades.<br />

27. Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 9460, Raymond T. Goldbach Memorial Award in honor of Hugh<br />

Hoyt<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to sons or daughters of a present or former member of the Armed Forces who<br />

is active in school programs <strong>and</strong> the community <strong>and</strong> also maintains good grades.<br />

28. Korean War Veterans Award<br />

This $200 award is awarded to a graduating senior who is related to a Korean War Veteran, maintains good<br />

grades <strong>and</strong> is active in school programs.<br />

This $150 scholarship is awarded to a female graduate for scholarship <strong>and</strong> citizenship.<br />

30. Gregor Chren French Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior for accomplishments in French.<br />

31. Gregor Chren Language Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior for academic accomplishments.<br />

32. Christine Bunting Middleton Memorial Award<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to an academically <strong>and</strong> athletically gifted female student.<br />

33. Lippincott Award for Excellence in Mathematics <strong>and</strong> Science<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded in memory of Lowell Lippincott <strong>and</strong> in honor of Estelle Lippincott to a<br />

graduating senior for excellence in mathematics <strong>and</strong> science.<br />

34. Rubye Kinlow McNeil Memorial Scholarship (English Major)<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded by Raye Wilson, in memory of her mother, a former English teacher at<br />

<strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>, to a graduating senior who has demonstrated dedication to their studies <strong>and</strong> will go on to<br />

further education in the field of English.<br />

35. Angelina Palmer Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a student in the business curriculum who has achieved excellence in<br />

scholarship <strong>and</strong> demonstrated exemplary qualities of leadership <strong>and</strong> effort.<br />

36. Richard G. Ross Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship in honor of Richard G. Ross is awarded to a senior boy who, like Mr. Ross, exemplifies<br />

excellence in academics, athletics <strong>and</strong> community service.<br />

37. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Academic Scholarship<br />

Ten $100 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who demonstrate strong academic performance.<br />

38. Harry B. Flood Memorial Award<br />

This $50 award is presented to the athlete who has best exemplified high st<strong>and</strong>ards of scholarship <strong>and</strong><br />

citizenship.<br />

39. <strong>Stratford</strong> Recreation Department Scholarship<br />

This $50 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates good character, scholarship <strong>and</strong> must<br />

have participated in a Recreation Department program at some time in their lives. (One page essay required.)<br />

40. <strong>Stratford</strong> Republican Women's Association<br />

This $50 award is presented to a senior who has demonstrated outst<strong>and</strong>ing qualities of scholarship <strong>and</strong><br />

leadership in the area of Social Studies <strong>and</strong> has contributed service to the community.<br />

41. Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Award<br />

This $50 award is presented for excellence in United States History <strong>and</strong> American Government.<br />

42. Ruby E. Wheeler Memorial Award<br />

This $50 award is presented to the student who has displayed fine strength <strong>and</strong> character, determination <strong>and</strong><br />

integrity as exemplified by Ruby Wheeler.<br />

The following scholarships are open to all seniors. Awardees will be selected<br />

according to the individual scholarship criteria.<br />

43. <strong>Stratford</strong> Rotary Club Allen B. Vermilya Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $2,000 scholarship ($500 for four consecutive years) is awarded by the <strong>Stratford</strong> Rotary Club for<br />

scholarship <strong>and</strong> citizenship as evidenced by involvement in both school <strong>and</strong> community activities.<br />

44. <strong>Stratford</strong> Masons Scholarship<br />

(Sponsored by The Baldwin Chapter #13 Royal Arch Masons)<br />

This $1,500 award is presented to a graduating senior with serious financial need who plans on attending<br />

college.<br />

45. Lordship Fathers' Club Award<br />

This $1,250 scholarship is awarded to a Lordship resident in memory of the deceased members of the Lordship<br />

Fathers’ Club.<br />

46. Frank P. Bl<strong>and</strong>o Jr. Memorial Award<br />

A $1000 scholarship is awarded to a student who plays football <strong>and</strong> exemplifies the ideals of Frank P. Bl<strong>and</strong>o<br />

Jr., including a concern for others, spirit, perseverance <strong>and</strong> hustle.<br />

47. Class of 1958 Scholarship<br />

This $1000 scholarship is awarded by the alumni of the Class of 1958 to a graduating senior who has exhibited<br />

positive character qualities.<br />

48. Ted DeLauro Scholarship Fund<br />

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated serious commitment to<br />

community service.<br />

49. <strong>Stratford</strong> Trumbull Civitan Award<br />

This $1,000 is awarded in memory of Nick Pasquarella to that student who has made conspicuous contributions<br />

as a good school <strong>and</strong> community citizen. Financial need considered.<br />

50. Karen <strong>and</strong> Leonard Kleinman Memorial Scholarship<br />

Two $750 scholarships are awarded in memory of Karen <strong>and</strong> Len Kleinman to the male <strong>and</strong> female graduates<br />

who through their four years at SHS have shown a commitment to learning <strong>and</strong> caring about others, while<br />

displaying a sense of humor <strong>and</strong> a love of life.<br />

51. Michael C. Reilly Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $750 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior related to a professional firefighter who will continue<br />

his or her education.<br />

52. Emma Butler Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by her family to graduating senior who exemplifies Emma Butler’s<br />

commitment to <strong>Stratford</strong>’s South End Community. The c<strong>and</strong>idate must demonstrate community service, be an<br />

African American with preference given to a student with South End experience.<br />

53. William J. Carroll Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has exhibited outst<strong>and</strong>ing leadership qualities <strong>and</strong><br />

has actively participated in school or civic organizations.<br />

54. Class of 1958 Scholarship<br />

Four $500 scholarships are awarded by the alumni of the Class of 1958 to a needy graduating senior who has<br />

exhibited positive character qualities<br />

55. Roberta Davis Discenza Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating student of <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> for continuing education, <strong>and</strong><br />

does not necessarily have to be used for a four year school, may be used at a Community College, Technical<br />

<strong>School</strong>, Culinary <strong>School</strong> (any type of higher education past high school). Applicant must be an above average<br />

to average student who demonstrates good citizenship <strong>and</strong> financial need. Student should also have<br />

demonstrated interest <strong>and</strong>/or participation in water sports, such as swimming, boating, Long Isl<strong>and</strong> Sound<br />

ecology or marine science. Particular consideration should also be awarded to a student who meets the above<br />

guidelines <strong>and</strong> is also a member of a drum <strong>and</strong> bugle corps or color guard although this should not be held as a<br />

requirement to meet the scholarship's criteria.<br />

56. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International: Beta Chapter Award<br />

This $500 award is presented to a graduating female who will be entering a teacher education program. The<br />

student must demonstrate the qualities consistent with the promise of leadership in education, including<br />

scholarship <strong>and</strong> community service. Financial need may be a consideration.<br />

57. Olga & Dimitri Jankowich Scholarship<br />

A $500 scholarship is awarded by the Fairfield County Community Foundation in memory of Olga & Dimitri<br />

Jankowich.<br />

58. Gladys V. Jubb Scholarship<br />

Four $500 scholarships are awarded by the graduates of the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Class of 1937 in memory of<br />

Gladys V. Jubb, history teacher <strong>and</strong> Class Advisor. The award is presented to a student planning to continue<br />

his/her education in the field of teaching.<br />

59. Wyler Kardos Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded in memory of Doris Wyler Kardos <strong>and</strong> her father William T. Wyler to a<br />

deserving Lordship resident who is continuing his/her education.<br />

60. Dr. Martin Luther King Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by the <strong>Stratford</strong> Clergy Association to an African American student who has<br />

demonstrated commitment to social justice through involvement in extra curricular activities <strong>and</strong> who plans to<br />

pursue a college education.<br />

61. Dr. Martin Luther King Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by the <strong>Stratford</strong> Clergy Association to student who has demonstrated<br />

commitment to social justice through involvement in extra curricular activities <strong>and</strong> who plans to pursue a<br />

college education.<br />

62. Anthony F. Mack Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by his family to a senior member of the basketball team who displays good<br />

sportsmanship <strong>and</strong> plans to pursue a college education.<br />

63. America-St. John's Lodge #8 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Scholarship Award<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue his education in a technology<br />

field.<br />

64. Mildred McGovern Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 of Milford to a student<br />

entering the nursing field who has contributed to the community.<br />

65. Sodexho <strong>School</strong> Service Award<br />

This $500 award is presented to a graduating senior who will continue his or her education in the field of<br />

culinary arts.<br />

66. <strong>Stratford</strong> Council of PTA Scholarship<br />

A $500 award is presented to a student planning to continue his/her education <strong>and</strong> the student <strong>and</strong> parent are<br />

involved with the PTA.<br />

67. <strong>Stratford</strong> Lions Club John Serfilippo Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who has made contributions as a good school <strong>and</strong> community<br />

minded citizen.<br />

68. <strong>Stratford</strong> Police Athletic League (PAL) Scholarship in Memory of Officer Thomas Hoffman<br />

This $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates extraordinary commitment to<br />

volunteering demonstrated by the number of service hours performed.<br />

69. Anthony C. Vena Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $500 scholarship is awarded by the <strong>Stratford</strong> Volunteer EMS Association, Inc. to a graduating senior who is<br />

planning a career in a medical related field, has financial need, <strong>and</strong> has been involved in community work.<br />

70. Brakettes Softball Scholar Athlete Award<br />

This $300 award is awarded to a senior member of the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> softball team who displays the<br />

qualities of sportsmanship <strong>and</strong> fair play <strong>and</strong> who plans to continue his or her education beyond high school.<br />

71. Frank Scott Bunnell Memorial Award<br />

A $300 scholarship is awarded to a student who exhibits interest in the humanities <strong>and</strong> the arts.<br />

72. Class of 1959 Scholarship<br />

This $300 scholarship is awarded to a son or daughter of a graduate of <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> who has shown<br />

academic progress.<br />

73. Peter (Chip) Molnar Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $300 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who volunteered in special needs programs or events<br />

that showed concern for the most vulnerable among us.<br />

74. Anne <strong>and</strong> Anthony Musante Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $300 scholarship is awarded to a student planning a career in the field of business.<br />

75. Square One Theater's William A. Barry Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $300 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has contributed to school life by active<br />

participation in Theater Arts or Drama Club.<br />

76. Martha Ciccarelli Memorial Scholarship<br />

Two $250 scholarships are awarded to seniors whose parents have demonstrated a strong commitment to the<br />

philosophy of volunteering, particularly to the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Post Prom. Martha's memory will live on<br />

in the project that she loved so much.<br />

77. Computer Science Award<br />

A $250 award is presented by John McLachlan to a student for achievement in computer science.<br />

78. Richard D. Murphy Mathematics Scholarship<br />

This $250 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated an outst<strong>and</strong>ing interest in the<br />

fields of mathematics <strong>and</strong> its real-world application, a direct-action involvement within the school community<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or the larger political, economic <strong>and</strong> social community, <strong>and</strong> an intellectual curiosity in the applied fields of<br />

mathematics.<br />

79. Oronoque Village Condominium Association Scholarship<br />

This $250 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing a program of higher education.<br />

80. James W. Penders Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded to a member of the baseball team in memory of James W. Penders, former<br />

coach, teacher <strong>and</strong> administrator.<br />

81. Ronald S. Siksay Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded in memory of Ronald S. Siksay, past president <strong>and</strong> coach of the <strong>Stratford</strong> Pony<br />

Baseball League, to a graduating senior who is a former member of the league <strong>and</strong> plans to continue his/her<br />

education.<br />

82. <strong>Stratford</strong> Chamber of Commerce/Bridgeport Regional Business Council Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to pursue further education in the field of<br />

business. First preference will be awarded to a <strong>School</strong> to Career program or Future Business Leaders of<br />

America student who has demonstrated high moral character <strong>and</strong> integrity, an awareness of ethical behavior <strong>and</strong><br />

a commitment to life-long learning.<br />

83. <strong>Stratford</strong> Firefighters Local 998 Award<br />

This $250 award is presented to a son or daughter of a relative of a firefighter (IAFF) or who is pursuing a<br />

related career to firefighting.<br />

84. <strong>Stratford</strong> Little League Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded in memory of Ryan Wauthier, to a boy or girl who participated in the <strong>Stratford</strong><br />

Little League.<br />

85. <strong>Stratford</strong> Old Timers Athletics Association Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded to a student for contributing / participating in athletics at <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> who will continue his / her education.<br />

86. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Student Council Service Scholarship<br />

A $250 scholarship is awarded to a student for their contributions <strong>and</strong> participation in all student council<br />

sponsored events.<br />

87. SHS Red Devil Booster Club, Vincent Buelher Volleyball Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded by the Red Devil Booster Club to a graduating senior who has participated in<br />

the volleyball program.<br />

88. Elizabeth C. Coughlin Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior for academic improvement, character, <strong>and</strong> contribution<br />

to school life.<br />

89. Class of 1958 Scholarship<br />

Two $200 awards are presented each year to a senior player from the football <strong>and</strong> wrestling teams. These<br />

athletes should exemplify the ideals that Coach Czekaj valued in his playing <strong>and</strong> coaching career at <strong>Stratford</strong><br />

<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. The qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, outst<strong>and</strong>ing effort <strong>and</strong> love of the sport represent<br />

Coach Czekaj's ideal player.<br />

91. Mary C. Coughlin Hausman Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to a senior who is planning a career in nursing.<br />

This $200 is awarded to a graduating senior who has displayed an interest in the historical aspects of the Town<br />

This $200 award is presented to a student who has been active in the performing arts curriculum <strong>and</strong> will<br />

continue his/her education in fine arts or a related field.<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded for outst<strong>and</strong>ing service to the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Library Media Center.<br />

95. William Lindberg Jr. Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has been associated with the baseball team.<br />

96. Glencora Ketcham Maresca Art Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded to a senior who has shown initiative <strong>and</strong> self-motivation in the study of art.<br />

97. Thomas C. <strong>and</strong> Ruth A. Lawrence May Scholarship<br />

This $200 scholarship is awarded by family <strong>and</strong> friends to a senior girl who has participated in the athletics<br />

program at <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

98. Marie McCormick Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a student in the Business Education curriculum who has achieved excellence<br />

in the technology area of the curriculum. The student should have demonstrated exemplary qualities in<br />

leadership <strong>and</strong> effort. This award is intended for a student who has demonstrated determination <strong>and</strong><br />

perseverance in his/her pursuit of excellence.<br />

99. Simon Mogelof Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded for excellence in art, utilizing varying subject matter <strong>and</strong> media. The student<br />

should exhibit the application of art to issues of the environment, justice <strong>and</strong> world peace.<br />

100. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> PTSA Scholarship<br />

These $200 scholarships are awarded to a boy <strong>and</strong> a girl graduate with good citizenship <strong>and</strong> school spirit. The<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduate of Wooster Middle <strong>School</strong>.<br />

104. Evelyn Holmer Wordell Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a graduate who indicates a desire to major in English. It is the wish of the<br />

sponsor of this award to recognize a student for success at their level of instruction. It does not have to be a<br />

student with an outst<strong>and</strong>ing GPA. The intent is to recognize a student who may not have been eligible for<br />

scholarships. If an English major is not available art or music are also other choices.<br />

105. Everett J. Wordell Scholarship<br />

A $200 scholarship is awarded to a graduate who has put forth great effort <strong>and</strong> achieved success in mathematics<br />

at <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. It is the wish of the sponsor of this award to recognize a student for success at their<br />

level of instruction. It does not have to be a student with an outst<strong>and</strong>ing GPA. The intent is to recognize a<br />

student who may not have been eligible for scholarships. If a math major is not available art or music are also<br />

106. Leonard & Bertha Hessinger Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $150 scholarship is awarded to a student who shows academic improvement.<br />

107. Shaklee Environment Award<br />

This $125 scholarship is awarded to a member of the Environmental/Earth club or a senior who volunteered on<br />

a community "environmental" event/project. (Example: clean-up or taking "Environmental Science Class).<br />

108. <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>School</strong> Custodians Scholarship<br />

This $125 scholarship is awarded by the school custodians to a graduating senior who plans to continue his<br />

education.<br />

109. Pearl Elizabeth Bach Scholarship<br />

A $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduate entering the field of elementary education. (Preference will be<br />

awarded to a graduate of Nichols <strong>School</strong>, if possible.)<br />

110. Keith J. Bodnar Memorial Award<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to the senior who has displayed strength of character, integrity, <strong>and</strong> personal<br />

courage as exemplified by Keith Bodnar.<br />

111. Joseph B. Clark Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a student planning a career in education.<br />

112. Class of 1951 Scholarship Award<br />

A $100 award is presented to a graduating senior who has displayed determination <strong>and</strong> academic progress<br />

throughout his/her high school years.<br />

These $100 awards are presented for outst<strong>and</strong>ing service to the senior class. (The number of awards may vary<br />

117. Mary Elizabeth Cooney Award<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded in memory of Miss Mary Elizabeth Cooney for character, contribution to<br />

school life, <strong>and</strong> success in mathematics.<br />

118. Henry E. Crawford Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a student who is pursuing a program of higher education.<br />

119. Benjamin Cutrufello Memorial Scholarship<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has shown proficiency in the Business curriculum<br />

<strong>and</strong> plans to continue his or her education.<br />

120. Michael Diedrickson Memorial Award<br />

A $100 award is awarded to a member of the senior class who will be joining the Marines or any branch of the<br />

Armed Services or who plans on attending college. Financial need is considered.<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to enter the teaching profession.<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded in memory of Anthony J. Marranzino, Jr., Class of 1994, to a graduating<br />

senior who is an active member of the Drama Club <strong>and</strong> has exhibited good leadership qualities, honesty, fair<br />

This $100 scholarship is awarded by Raye Wilson, in memory of her mother, a former English teacher at<br />

126. National Helicopter Museum, Inc. Award<br />

This $100 award is presented to a graduating senior wishing to pursue a career in aviation or a related field.<br />

Special preference is given to anyone planning to attend the <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>School</strong> for Aviation Maintenance.<br />

127. Robert Newall Scholarship<br />

Two $100 scholarships are awarded to one male <strong>and</strong> one female who participated in the indoor <strong>and</strong> outdoor<br />

track programs. The recipients should show the qualities of dedication to the sport, leadership, <strong>and</strong> teamwork.<br />

A $100 award is presented to a technology education student for integrity <strong>and</strong> achievement.<br />

130. Nicholas Rotunno Jr. Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $100 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is a current member of SADD <strong>and</strong> actively<br />

participated in SADD/MADD programs in <strong>Stratford</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> or in the community.<br />

131. Mead Jon Scofield Memorial Award<br />

A $100 award is presented to a graduating senior for his/her humanity <strong>and</strong> athletic ability.<br />

132. Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Charles E. Senft, Sr. Memorial Scholarship<br />

Two $100 scholarships are awarded in memory of Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Charles E. Senft, Sr. to graduating seniors who<br />

plan on pursuing a career in Physical Education or a Health related field. Students must exhibit the qualities of<br />

the six pillars of character (Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, <strong>and</strong> Citizenship) <strong>and</strong><br />

must have contributed in some way to SHS <strong>and</strong>/or the <strong>Stratford</strong> community.<br />

133. John Stavola Memorial Scholarship<br />

A $100 scholarship is awarded by Mr. Angelo Stavola to a graduating senior who has been in the athletic<br />
