108. 1976 HWA visits South Africa for first time (28 May)<br />

Late in the year he fell <strong>of</strong>f the stage and sprained his ankle in Port Elizabeth.<br />

During his time in bed he began to think about the state <strong>of</strong> the Church and<br />

emerging problems.<br />

11 November – he falls and sprains his ankle in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It was<br />

from then he started to think about the state <strong>of</strong> the church and how it needed to be<br />

put back on track. He commented that at the venue he gave “one <strong>of</strong> the strongest<br />

sermons <strong>of</strong> my life (no punches pulled).”<br />

Church <strong>of</strong> God, Sonome established by Paul Royer after splitting from CGE<br />

109. 1977 HWA marries Ramona Martin in April.<br />

Big Sandy campus closes in May.<br />

HWA clinically ‘dies’ <strong>of</strong> a heart attack but is revived (16 August). Starts thinking<br />

about the stated <strong>of</strong> the church again.<br />

110. 1978 HWA takes over firm control <strong>of</strong> WCG (May-July)<br />

GTA leaves WCG (28 June) and incorporates Church <strong>of</strong> God, International<br />

AC scaled back to a Bible college.<br />

US & Britain booklet revised and published serially in the Plain Truth and was then<br />

published as a hard cover book<br />

Basil Wolverton dies<br />

Church <strong>of</strong> God, International founded by GTA<br />

Richard Nickels forms Giving & Sharing. He was active with publishing efforts for<br />

several years prior to that.<br />

Worldwide News replaced by a tabloid version <strong>of</strong> The Good News. WN temporarily<br />

ceases 22 May<br />
