As I was lying in bed pondering the 

problems of the world, I quickly realized 

that I’m tired of the rat race. It’s 

the tortoise life for me! 

1. If walking is good for your health, 

the postman would be immortal. 

2. A whale swims all day, only eats 

fish, drinks water, and is fat. 

3. A rabbit runs and hops and only 

lives 15 years. 

A tortoise doesn’t run and does nothing, 

yet lives for 450 years. 

And you tell me to exercise?? I don’t 

think so. I’m retired. Go around me.

This is our 3rd season as being owners of the 

taxi service in Creston, BC. We have dedicated 

ourselves to 16-20 hours of service daily, with 

no time off for ourselves. Calculations for the 

year 2012, after expenses, we have profited 

$6.17 per hour, far below the BC minimum 

wage. We are trying to eliminate most of the 

dead hours, and credit ourselves with some 

well-needed time off. There is not enough 

money brought in to pay for drivers. The only 

times we are steady are welfare day, pension 

day, and baby bonus day, and once in a while, 

the odd function. There have been days, where 

there have been no fares for 5 hours, also days 

where we have worked for $2.20 per hour. 

From now on, at any time we get no fares in a 

3 hour period, we are likely to shut down for 

that day. We will re-evaluate at the end of this 

year, and possibly at that time we might consider 

closing the doors. Clients say they need 

the service, but can we keep it operational?

Places I’ve Been 

I have been in many places, but I’ve 

never been in Cahoots. Apparently,

accident my mother-in-law was involved

Coming Clean 

A man from New York City vacationed 

several times in the state of Maine. He 

liked it so well up there that he sold out 

in New York and bought a home in 

Maine to live there for the rest of his 

life. He liked the honest lifestyle and 

the clean air. 

His neighbor he noticed raised rabbits 

for a living. The man had several 

dozen hutches full of rabbits. 

One day shortly after the move to the 

new home the former New Yorker 

looked out his window in time to see 

his dog carrying a rabbit in his mouth. 

Horrified, he ran out to save the rabbit, 

only to find out it was too late. Mortified 

and embarrassed, he went to the 

neighbor with the dead bunny. The 

neighbor was very nice about the incident 

and told him not to worry about it. 

Sometime later the rabbit man needed 

to go on a visit to see his son in a distant 

state for two weeks. The New 

Yorker, hearing about this, thought he 

could redeem himself, and volunteered 

to clean and feed and water the rabbits 

for the man. 

The two weeks went without incident 

until about an hour before the neighbor 

was to return home. The dog again 

was trotting across the yard with a rabbit 

in his mouth. The New Yorker ran 

out again to save the poor animal, but 

it was too late!

grandparents on similar missions, 

many flying for the first time. My folks 

had seats by the window and noticed 

an elderly lady across the aisle periodically

into the trip, at an altitude of 30,000 

feet, the lady seemed unable to control 

herself any longer. She leaned across 

the aisle and snapped at my parents: “I 

can feel a draft. Have you got your window 

open?”

Several years ago, Andy was sentenced 

to prison. During his stay, he 

got along well with the guards and all 

his fellow inmates. The warden saw 

that deep down, Andy was a good person 

and made arrangements for Andy 

to learn a trade while doing his time. 

After three years, Andy was recognized 

as being one of the best carpenters 

in the local area. Often he would 

be given a weekend pass to do odd 

jobs for the citizens of his community, 

and he always reported back to prison 

before Sunday night was over. The 

warden was thinking of remodeling his 

kitchen and in fact, had done much of 

the work himself. But he lacked the 

skills to build a set of kitchen cupboards 

and a large counter top which 

he had promised his wife.

So he called Andy into his office and 

asked him to complete the job for him. 

But, alas, Andy refused. He told the 

warden, “Gosh, I’d like to help you but 

counter fitting is what got me into 

prison in the first place.

hope. 

This time, to save embarrassment, the 

New Yorker filled up his sink with hot 

water and put in some Woolite. The 

rabbit washed clean and the wife blow 

dried it with her electric blow dryer. The 

New Yorker quickly put the rabbit in a 

cage and went home. 

About an hour later he got a phone call 

from the rabbit man asking if he saw 

anything unusual about the rabbits. 

The New Yorker acted mystified and 

said no. He went on to say that if anything 

happened, it happened after he 

fed the animals that morning. 

“Funny thing,” the rabbit man said. “I 

have a dead rabbit, and it looks just 

like the one I buried just before I left for 

my trip.”

An engineering student, a physics student, 

and a math student were each 

given $150 and were told to use that 

money to find out exactly how tall a 

particular hotel was. All three ran off, 

extremely keen on how to do this. The 

physics student went out, purchased 

some stopwatches, a number of ball 

bearings, a calculator, and some 

friends. He had them all time the drop 

of the ball bearings from the roof, and 

he then figured out the height from the 

time it took for the bearings to accelerate 

from rest until they impacted the 

sidewalk. The math student waited 

until the sun was going down, then she 

took out her protractor, plumb line, 

measuring tape, and scratch pad, 

measured the length of the shadow, 

found the angle the buildings roof 

made from the ground, and used trigonometry 

to figure out the height of the 

building. Of course, with all that was 

involved in getting this experiment 

done, they were up plenty late studying 

for other course exams. These two 

students bumped into the engineering 

student the next day, who looked quite 

refreshed. When they asked what he 

did to find the height of the building he 

replied: “Well, I walked up to the bell 

hop, gave him 10 bucks, asked him 

how tall the hotel was, and went inside 

for a 5 course dinner.”
