Go Back to Basics to Ease Back Pain
Your parents told you to sit up straight, but if you slump in your
chair, you could be putting unnecessary and painful strain on your
back. Here are some basic tips to improve your sitting posture:
• Pick a chair that fits your body. The seat should fit the distance
from your buttocks to your knees. And your chair
should be the right height from your knees to the floor for
your legs to be straight and comfortable.
• Support your lower back. Use pillows with office chairs
(or the seat of your car).
• Don’t sit with your head forward. You’ll put added strain
on your spine. Sit up straight (Yes, Mom), and try not to
lean your body to one side or the other.
Exercise Professional Etiquette At The Gym
The golf course used to be where executives met to combine
business with exercise. These days many of us share workouts at
the gym or health club with colleagues and managers, and that
can call for a different brand of etiquette. Keep these tips in mind:
• Dress for success. Workout clothes can be sensible, but
not too casual or risqué. Ripped T-shirts and skin-tight
spandex can send the wrong message.
• Look out in the locker room. When you’re changing or
showering, maintain a reasonable level of privacy. Once
you and the CEO have seen each other’s underwear, the
image can be hard to erase.
• Don’t show off. Maybe you can bench-press more weight
than anyone in your department, or rebound with the best
of them. You’ll win more respect by concentrating on your
workout without bragging or shamelessly seeking attention.
• Stay professional. Doing your victory dance after dunking
a basketball can seem immature and arrogant. Remember
that you need to work with these people after you’ve gone
back to the office.
“Family life is too intimate to be preserved by the spirit of justice.
It can be sustained by a spirit of love which goes beyond justice.”
