Softball Community Coaching Program Delivery of pilot programs Brooke delivered four pilot programs to over 50 participants in the ACT, Qld and NSW. Feedback from the pilot programs has been incorporated into all the resources, which include: • Participants Guide • Activity Cards • USB wristband containing electronic resources including video clips and explanations of activities Brooke and Bob have been instrumental in the development of the SCCP and Brooke with the delivery of the pilot programs. Moving forward In the next financial year, Softball Australia will: • implement SCCP in each Member State • develop and release the website • train 500 participants • develop additional Activity Cards SOFTBALL AUSTRALIA ANNUAL REPORT 2012 Page | 59
Softball Batter Up Softball Batter Up Softball Batter Up introduces participants to the fundamental skills of softball through a variety of activities and games designed to developed physical fitness, social skills and an understanding of the game. Softball Batter Up (SBU) is a Softball Australia national junior participation program designed to introduce girls and boys aged 4 to 12, to the game of Softball. SBU encourages fun and social interaction, where everyone and anyone can participate. The program offers participants a variety of modified games and activities, with the focus on fun and enjoyment, skill development and continued participation. A number of successful programs were conducted throughout the year, particularly in Victoria. During 2011-12, Softball Victoria successfully piloted SBU in a number of metropolitan and rural associations with 717 participants attending. The programs were delivered in various flexible formats to ensure the needs of the participants and the providers were met. • pre-season training as an introduction to SBU • Saturday mornings ‘in season’ as an introduction to Tee Ball • Holiday Programs • Come ‘n’ Try Days • clinic or tabloid activities • Kids Zone – an event-based program Softball NT also commenced their roll out in the form of clinics, with a total of 690 participants from remote communities attending. Softball Australia has been running the SBU program as a core component of the Indigenous Softball Program this year, increasing the number of SBU participants.
