Umpiring<br />

International umpiring appointments<br />

• Leigh Evans (Vic) and Darren Sibraa (Qld) represented <strong>Australia</strong> on the ISF Standards Committee to review and assist<br />

with the technical presentation and rules, which is an ongoing role with the ISF.<br />

• Leigh Evans (Vic) and Kevin Broomhall (Vic) has completed the review of the ISF Four Umpire Rotation System.<br />

• Darren Sibraa (Qld) was appointed to umpire at the IV International Men’s <strong>Softball</strong> Tournament, Parana City,<br />

Argentina in September 2011.<br />

• Kevin Broomhall (Vic) was appointed to the <strong>Australia</strong>n U19 Men’s Team, Aussie Colts who also toured Argentina.<br />

• Leanne Gearside (NSW) was appointed to the <strong>2012</strong> Women’s Open Club Championship, Lower Hutt, New Zealand in<br />

March 2011.<br />

• Trevor Murphy (Vic) was appointed to the <strong>2012</strong> New Zealand Men’s Open Club Championship, Auckland, New<br />

Zealand, in March 2011.<br />

• Yvonne Kahler and Helen Strauss were appointed to the ISF IX Junior Women’s World Championship in Cape Town,<br />

South Africa, in November 2011.<br />

• International <strong>Softball</strong> Challenge – <strong>Australia</strong> v Japan Women’s Test Series held in Canberra in March <strong>2012</strong>. Leigh Evans<br />

(Vic) was appointed as the TCU with Howard Watt (NSW), Darrell Shephard (NSW), Phil Waller (Vic), Jason Carter<br />

(Vic), Warren Duff (WA) and Alex Turnbull (ACT).<br />

• ISF Open Men’s Oceania Qualifier held in Canberra in December 2011. Patricia Sibraa (Qld) acted as the <strong>Softball</strong><br />

<strong>Australia</strong> Technical Delegate/Competition Manager and Deputy UIC. The TCU for the Qualifier was Wayne<br />

Saunders (NZ) Oceania UIC, with Leigh Evans (Vic), Debbie Grove (Vic), Darren Sibraa (Qld) and Scott Rindfleish<br />

(NSW) as the umpiring crew.<br />

• Ron Houison (NSW) was appointed to the <strong>2012</strong> USA World Cup of <strong>Softball</strong> VII, Oklahoma, USA in June <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

2011 International Youth Cup appointments<br />

The <strong>Softball</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> International Youth Cup in July 2011 was staffed by 30 umpires from New South Wales, Victoria,<br />

South <strong>Australia</strong>, Queensland and New Zealand, varying in accreditation from Level 1 to international umpires.<br />

Tournament Chief Umpire, Leanne Gearside (NSW), was assisted by Leigh Evans (Vic), Yvonne Kahler (Qld) and Kevin<br />

Tannebring (SA). Video recordings taken during the tournament were used to provide feedback to individual umpires.<br />

Seventy games were officiated by 28 umpires,with all games covered using the three man rotation system.<br />
