Are we going into a situation of
over-supply of organic seed ?
• Official policy of the Norwegian ministry of agriculture is
that 10% of the agricultural production should be organic by
2010.
• Despite intensive support / subsidies to organic farmers, the
conversion rate is still rather low. Per cent converted land
increased from about 1% in 1995 to about 3% in 2005.
• Most Norwegian customers have great confidence in
conventional agricultural products, and only a few are
willing to pay premiums for organic food.
(In fact, this often also applies to organic farmers
themeselves !)
• How is this situation in other countries ?
