Since a significant portion <strong>of</strong> these amounts will reach m<strong>at</strong>urity without any payment oblig<strong>at</strong>ion m<strong>at</strong>erializing<br />

for the Bank, the aggreg<strong>at</strong>e balance <strong>of</strong> these commitments cannot be considered as an actual future<br />

requirement for financing or liquidity to be provided by the Bank to third parties.<br />

In <strong>2010</strong> and 2009 no issuances <strong>of</strong> debt securities carried out by non-Group entities have been guaranteed.<br />

30. ASSETS ASSIGNED TO OTHER OWN AND THIRD-PARTY OBLIGATIONS<br />

In addition to those mentioned in other notes in these annual accounts (see Notes 11 and 20) as <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>December</strong> <strong>31</strong>, <strong>2010</strong> and 2009, the Bank's treasury assets assigned to its own oper<strong>at</strong>ions amounted to<br />

€67,984 and €71,728 million respectively. These amounts mainly correspond to the issue <strong>of</strong> long-term<br />

covered bonds (Note 20.4) which, pursuant to the Mortgage Market Act, are admitted as third-party coll<strong>at</strong>eral<br />

and to assets alloc<strong>at</strong>ed as coll<strong>at</strong>eral for certain lines <strong>of</strong> short-term finance assigned to the Bank by the<br />

European Central Bank.<br />

As <strong>of</strong> <strong>December</strong> <strong>31</strong>, <strong>2010</strong> and 2009, there were no additional assets assigned to third-party oblig<strong>at</strong>ions to<br />

those described in the different headings <strong>of</strong> the accompanying financial st<strong>at</strong>ements.<br />

<strong>31</strong>. OTHER CONTINGENT ASSETS AND CONTINGENT LIABILITIES<br />

As <strong>of</strong> <strong>December</strong> <strong>31</strong>, <strong>2010</strong> and 2009, there were no significant contingent assets or liabilities registered in the<br />

financial st<strong>at</strong>ements <strong>at</strong>tached.<br />

32. PURCHASE AND SALE COMMITMENTS AND FUTURE PAYMENT OBLIGATIONS<br />
