About the Author<br />
Christopher Duffy was born in 1936. After gaining a doctorate in history at<br />
Oxford he joined the Department <strong>of</strong> Military History at the Royal Military<br />
Academy, Sandhurst, in 1961. He left the RMAS as a senior lecturer in War<br />
Studies in 1996 to take up a research pr<strong>of</strong>essorship at De Montfort University,<br />
Bedford. He now occupies himself with writing, supporting the conservation <strong>of</strong><br />
historic sites, and voluntary work in the Court Witness Service. He is the author<br />
<strong>of</strong> some twenty-five books, most recently Through German Eyes – The British<br />
and the Somme 1916. He is at present up-dating The 45. Bonnie Prince Charlie<br />
and the Untold Story <strong>of</strong> the Jacobite Rising.
