The main project objectives are to secure power<br />

supply to the deficit southern regions of Kazakhstan<br />

by means of higher (up to 7-7.5 bln kWh<br />

per year) transmission capacity from North to<br />

South, and to improve availability and operational<br />

security of the National Power Grid of Kazakhstan<br />

and parallel operation of Russian, Kazakhstan<br />

and Central Asian power systems. Construction of<br />

500 kV Second Transmission Line of Kazakhstan<br />

North-South Transit (1 096.94 km) was completed<br />

in accordance with the project implementation<br />

plan.<br />

The total project value according to the approved<br />

FS was KZT 43.7 bln. In 2009 the project capital<br />

expenditures were disbursed to the amount of<br />

KZT 18 220.8 mln.<br />

TiON prOJECT, phaSE ii<br />

The main project objectives are to secure reliable<br />

and safe operation of the National Power Grid of<br />

Kazakhstan; to improve electricity market performance,<br />

reliability and quality of electricity supply<br />

to consumers, technical and environmental safety<br />

of high-voltage equipment and to reduce the<br />

cost of equipment operation and maintenance.<br />

The project requires partial modernization of 55<br />

high-voltage substations including replacement of<br />

high-voltage and power equipment, and modernization<br />

of protective relays.<br />

Project value is EUR 257.33 mln including EUR<br />

255.00 mln granted by EBRD under Loan AgreeprOJECT<br />
