BEECHWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL “Tree”mendous Awards: Sam Fozzard PRINCIPAL’S COMMENT Bulletin Vol. 28. No. 5. 6 March 2013 Guide Dogs NSW On Monday 11 March a guest speaker from the Guide Dogs Association, Kathryn Stephens and her guide dog “Perri”, will visit our school. During her visit, Kathryn will give our students an insight into her personal experience of living with impaired vision and having a guide dog. The Guide Dog Etiquette is included below for your information. GUIDE DOG ETIQUETTE Phone Meg Hillard on 0477 011 342 When a Guide Dog is in harness, it is working. Whether it is walking, sitting or sleeping, it should not be: patted fed or distracted. Please talk to the person, not the Guide Dog. Keeping pet dogs on lead in public places also helps Guide Dogs to maintain their concentration. PLEASE NOTE… Under the Companion Animals Act 1998 No 87 (14.1.e), dogs are prohibited in school grounds, (whether or not they are leashed or otherwise controlled). For the safety of all students, toddlers, babies and adults, please do not bring dogs into the school grounds, even on leashes. Some children have a genuine fear and it can be quite distressing for them as well as for parents, particularly those with very young children. Thank you for your support in this matter. SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS It would be appreciated if all school contributions are finalised before the end of term. This would allow the school to purchase the resources needed for the students to commence Term 2 and reduce reminder envelopes in future Terms. The costs are very reasonable at just $30 for a single student or $40 per family for the whole year. Thanking you in anticipation. Page 1 of 4

Celebrate Jesus Community Fun Day – A Short History
Celebrate Jesus is now in its seventh year and is an annual event. Every year more people discover it and every year
it’s a little different. It has semi-professional musicians and other acts participating as well.
Held in Bain Park in the centre of Wauchope, events get underway at about 9am on the 16 March. There will be a
kid’s fun tent with all sorts of activities including plaster mould painting, balloon animals, face painting, salt
patterning and sand modelling.
There will be a jumping castle, games for the family (including the teenagers), songs and drama and much, much
more. The Amazing Jono should be absolutely amazing - & the other thing that is absolutely amazing is that the
whole event and every part of it comes to the whole community at NO COST. Even the food is FREE.
together now as this is the first fundraiser of the year and the P&C and school would like to kick it off
to a great start. “Every little bit helps”!
Fundraising
If you were unable to attend the fundraising meeting last night but would like to be involved or have
some ideas to share, please email me at erinmoore1980@gmail.com
Seeking Donations of Easter Eggs!!!
Easter is nearly here already! The P&C is running an Easter Egg raffle and is
requesting donations of Easter Eggs for our prizes. Please bring items in to school
anytime from now. Raffle tickets will be attached to next week’s Bulletin.
Peddler’s Box Stalls
The P&C will be holding a Peddler’s Box fundraiser in conjunction with the school hat parade on Thursday
28 th March at 11.30am.
What to do:
1. Decorate a small box (eg. shoe box) to use as your Peddler’s Box
2. Gather or make some items for sale - about 6 items per child is plenty
3. Decide a price for your items between 50 cents - $2 each
4. Bring your Peddler’s Box to school on Thursday 28 th March and sell your wares - remember to
bring some money so you can purchase items too!!
What items can I sell?
The idea is that the children will get involved with making or finding items to sell. Ideas include:
‣ Craft items eg. pet rocks
‣ Baked goods eg. cupcakes (a list of ingredients must be supplied to cater for allergies etc)
‣ Toys that are no longer used eg. matchbox cars
‣ Bric-a-brac eg. hair clips, pencils, stickers
The possibilities are endless! Please note that 5 or 6 items per child is plenty and the box should be
inexpensive for you to put together. Items will be sold for between 50c and $2 each and all proceeds will
go to the P&C to help purchase additional resources for our school.
