Help support the Annual Fund by donating your car to Mater Dei. Receive a tax deduction for the fair market value, as well as the satisfaction of knowing you are helping our students. Donating a car is easy. Simply call (800) 203-2940 (National Charity Support Foundation). Tell them you want to donate a vehicle and the proceeds to be sent to Mater Dei High School. They will arrange for pick-up of the vehicle, DMV records transfer, gift letters, tax receipt and sale of the vehicle. Questions? Joe Ciccarella ‘88 The West Coast A t h l e t i c s Conference recently released its 40th Anniversary Baseball Team. Joe Ciccarella ‘88 played baseball for the Loyola Marymount Each year St. John Bosco High School recognizes members of its community through its New Legends program. Much like the Mater Dei Ring of Honor Program, the New Legends recognizes alumni and friends of St. John Bosco who have been successful in life as well as business. At the most recent ceremony in late 2006, three people with ties to Mater Dei became New Legends. Mater Dei graduate, JAKE DE RUYTER ‘59 and his wife JUDY and current football coach and past MD parent, TIM Jake De Ruyter ‘59 RICHMOND are all part of the most recent class of St. John Bosco New Legends. Jake and Judy are the parents of six sons who attended St. John Bosco and two daughters who attended St. Joseph 2007 Reunion Volunteers Are Needed All Classes ending in 2 and 7 will be celebrating reunions this year. The Office of Advancement and Alumni encourages all classes to hold their reunions to coincide with Homecoming Weekend. Class of 1992 15 Year Reunion Information We are in the planning stages for our 15-year reunion. If you would like to join us in organizing this spectacular event, please contact either Gloria Lombo-Chen at glchen@gmail.com or Olivia Alvarez-Eimers at ucsbaway@aol.com Ciccarella Gets Anniversary Team Nod University Lions from 1989-1991 and was named a member of the All-WCC team. Ciccarella, the Lions' first baseman, was a first-team All-WCC selection in 1991. That season, he was recognized as an All-American by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. He was the 1991 WCC Player of the Year and a second-team All-District pick. Ciccarella was named the WCC Monarchs Named New Legends High School. Throughout the years they have been very active in the schools as well as the local community. Jake joined his father’s dairy business in 1960 and purchased the company in 1964. He ran the company until selling it in 1978 and purchasing a sign company. Over the years, Jake was active in the Compton Board of Directors, Compton Chamber of Commerce, and the Knights of Columbus. He has been honored by such groups as the City of Stanton and The Passkeys Foundation. To this day, Jake remains actively involved in the Stanton Chamber of Commerce and Boys & Girls Club. Tim Richmond, a graduate of St. John Bosco and a member of the MD football staff was also inducted as a Tim Richmond New Legend. Freshman of the Year and also earned second-team freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. Following a successful sophomore season, Ciccarella was selected to represent the USA as a member of the National Baseball Team. Following his collegiate career, the Boston Red Sox selected Ciccarella in the fourth round of the 1991 MLB draft. and his wife DEBBIE are the parents of three Mater Dei graduates, Kelli ‘02, Lindsay ‘04 and Patrick ‘05. After completing school at CSULB, Tim started Richmond Plastering, Inc. that has grown into a corporation of over 100 employees. Tim has been coaching high school football for 25 years, the past six of those at MDHS. Over the years, Tim has been active in a number of community organizations. He has served with Long Beach Rotary, Executive Association of Long Beach, LBSU Foundation, the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Hedwig Pony Baseball and Childnet, Inc. just to name a few. The commitment these three have shown to St. John Bosco, as well as their community, is a great testament to their character.
