IS GOD CALLING YOU TO TEACH CHURCH SCHOOL?
Have you ever thought that perhaps God has given you the gift of teaching? Have you wondered whether or
not this might be a gift you could share with others? Are you open to considering whether or not you are being
called to serve as a Church School teacher this fall without any pressure or expectation that you will teach?
Here is your opportunity to do just that. On Saturday, May 11, from 8:45-11:00 a.m. and Monday, May 13,
from 5:45-8:00 p.m. two identical discernment sessions will be offered to anyone interested in exploring this
possibility. A Curriculum Task Force of our Spiritual Formation Team will offer you a hands-on overview of
a new curriculum we will be using this fall in all of our Church School classes. After an extensive time of
study and prayer, our Spiritual Formation Team approved moving to a new curriculum that will connect each
Sunday’s class with that day’s scripture lesson and sermon in worship. This will help all participants to discern
better what God is seeking to say to them through each Sunday’s scripture lesson and how best to reflect
that message in their daily lives. Because all classes will be focused on the same lesson, this will also enable
further discussion to continue in families and with other friends in our church family. All current, former and
“never-before” Church School teachers are encouraged to participate in one of these two workshops. Simply
register by Sunday, May 5, with Caley Oels in the church office by email caley.oels@fpcallentown.org or
phone 610-395-3781, Ext. 11. After participating in one of the workshops, participants will be given a period
of time prayerfully to consider if God is calling them to teach in the fall before offering their decision to the
Spiritual Formation Team.
CONFIRMATION SUNDAY
Members of this year’s Confirmation Class who have chosen to make a public profession of faith in Jesus
Christ as their Lord and Savior, will be confirmed in worship on Sunday, May 12, at the 10:15 a.m. traditional
worship service and the 10:30 a.m. alternative worship service. A church-wide reception honoring this year’s
Confirmands will take place on the front lawn of the church following these worship services.
THE 10:10 WORSHIP BAND INVITES YOU TO PRAISEFEST 2013
"The 10:10 - Life To The Full" is what you'll see emblazoned on keyboard
player Phil Henderson's t-shirt pretty much every Sunday morning. It is
the driving thought and Scripture (John 10:10) behind the Alternative Service
at First Presbyterian.
One of the visions expressed to the 10:10 band by both Lead Pastor
Tony Sundermeier and Director of Alternative Worship Adam Tavolaro was to
take the joy and fullness of life expressed through worship at the Alternative
Service and begin to embrace the community with it outside of the church walls.
Enter PraiseFest 2013. The event, taking place in Laureldale, PA on Saturday May 11, is a collaborative
worship service. The 10:10 Band, in addition to Cross-Eyed Jake, The Westlawn United Methodist Church
Praise Band, and Rock Solid from Calvary United Methodist Church, Mohnton, will be playing a set of worship
tunes and a few originals.
The idea behind the PraiseFest 2013 is outlined in its slogan: "A day of music, food, fun and praising
God, getting the community together so that we can 'Help each other help others'". Event organizer, Jerry Geleff,
envisioned a venue where churches could put aside their differences and concentrate on working together,
pooling resources, and fostering Christian fellowship as the body of Christ continues to build the kingdom of
God.
PraiseFest 2013 is being hosted at the Rosedale Camp Grove Association building, located on 1616
Vine St, Laureldale, Pennsylvania 19605. The event will start at 4pm and continue until around 7:00pm. The
all-ages event is free for all, and the 10:10 Band would love to see you come support this wonderful gathering
of believers for Christ's glory!
