Rochester, N.Y. Office Receives NVLAP Accreditation
FCC Approval Process Now Streamlined

TüVRheinland ® , the world leader in independent
testing and certification services, received
accreditation under the National Voluntary
Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP)
for its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC),
and telecommunications testing laboratory in
Rochester, N.Y. The lab is the only commercial
and independent test facility in the area to receive
NVLAP accreditation.
Administered by the National Institute of Standards
and Technology, NVLAP confirms that a testing lab
and its personnel have the technical qualifications
and competency to perform specific EMC and
telecommunications tests and/or calibrations.
This accreditation allows TüVRheinland ® of
North America to greatly accelerate the Federal
Communications Commission’s (FCC) approval
process in areas of EMC and telecommunications
testing by having the ability to self-declare
conformity to standards and bypass the FCC’s case
review process. This can save our information
technology equipment (ITE) and telecom clients

weeks or months of waiting. The accreditation
conforms to all requirements of the ISO/IEC
17025:2005 standard.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
is an independent United States government
agency, directly responsible to Congress. The FCC
was established by the Communications Act of
1934 and is credited with regulating interstate and
international communications by radio, television,
wire, satellite and cable.
Currently TüVRheinland ® ’s North American division
operates a total of 15 EMC testing laboratories and
two EMC mobile lab units throughout the United
States. Through this network of facilities, the
company tests local clients’ products to assure
compliance with various global requirements,
including the FCC and the European EMC Directive
2004/108/EC.
