MY TYPICAL COMPLAINT
Sorry; but, I am at it again.
I am lamenting the passage of time.
How in God’s green earth can it be the last Sunday of
July already? Wasn’t Christmas just last month? Didn’t we
celebrate Easter just two weeks ago? Wasn’t the festival
last week?
No?
Where in the world is time going?
All you get-rich-quick schemers out there, now is the time
to focus all your time and energy into developing a timeslowing
machine.
Just think.
With the push of a button, we would be able to slow time
down enough so that we do not get dizzy as it wizzes past
us each day.
I know a large group of people who would put down big
money for that kind of device: our students.
Yep.
Think about it.
With a device like that, summer vacation could become
the summer vacations of old.
Remember when we were growing up?
We got out of school at Memorial Day and did not return
to school until after Labor Day.
Now?
Now school typically runs a week or two past Memorial
Day and we are already in school for a couple of weeks
before Labor Day arrives.
A summer vacation that used to be three full months has
been reduced to two, for all practical considerations.
And that two months has been filled with all sorts of
school activities as well.
There is summer school for those students who need to
take it or who may want to take it so that they can get
ahead in their scholastic planning.
There are summer packets of work that must be
completed.
There is summer reading — and reports — that must be
done before school resumes.
So much work.
So little time.
This Thursday is the first day of August.
If you have not gotten into “relax mode” yet this summer, I
suggest you do so as soon as possible.
If not, you will have to wait until Christmas vacation before
you have an extended amount of time.
And you know how busy Christmas vacations
can be!
A SUMMER CONCERT
Our Schola Cantorum, comprised entirely of St. Thomas
More parishioners, is presenting a concert of sacred and
secular choral masterworks next Sunday, August 4, 2013, at
6:00 p.m.
Refreshments will be served immediately after the
concert.
There is no admittance for this performance.
Come and feel your spirits be lifted in approximately an
hour of wonderful music!
THANKS TO OUR NEIGHBORS
Every summer, our parish really goes all out with our
festival. The grounds are entirely filled with rides, food
vendors, an entertainment tent, and other items.
What that means is that there is never any place, except
for a few spaces on the gymnasium side of the building, to
park cars.
Thank you to all our neighbors for putting up with our
clutter and for allowing the use of your lots to park cars so
that people can come and enjoy the festival.
Please let this serve as a reminder
to you that part of being a good
neighbor means to utilize the
services of those businesses you
may have used during the festival
for your parking convenience.
Don’t just park there, shop there
as well.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
I couldn't seem to hold a job
My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I
got canned: couldn't concentrate.
Next, I tried working in a muffler shop, but that was too
exhausting.
So, I attempted being a deli worker, but any way you
sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.
I finally managed to get a good job working for a pool
maintenance company; but, the work was just too draining.
My last job was working in Starbucks. I had to quit
because it was the same old grind.
PLEASE REMEMBER THEM
Please pray for the priests and deacons who
have served the Diocese of Gary so faithfully
and whose anniversaries of death are this
week:
July 30: Deacon Walter Stone (1978)
July 31: Bishop John F. Noll (1956)
August 1: Rev. John Popa (1989)
August 2: Rev. Robert l. Mayhew (1970)
