Verify that:<br />

1. The printer is turned on and is online.<br />

2. The printer signal cable is securely connected to the correct<br />

parallel, serial, or USB port on the computer. (Refer to<br />

Chapter 2, “Setting Up Your Computer” on page 5 for the<br />

location of the printer, serial, and USB ports.)<br />

Note: Non-IBM printer signal cables might cause<br />

unpredictable problems.<br />

3. You have assigned the printer port correctly in your operating<br />

system or application program.<br />

4. You have assigned the printer port correctly in the<br />

Configuration/Setup Utility program. (For instructions on<br />

using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, refer to<br />

Chapter 5, “Using the Configuration/Setup Utility <strong>Pro</strong>gram”<br />

on page 41.)<br />

5. If the problem persists, run the tests described in the<br />

documentation supplied with your printer.<br />

If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have the computer<br />

and printer serviced.<br />

To determine if problems are caused by installed software, verify<br />

that:<br />

1. Your computer has the minimum memory requirements<br />

needed to use the software. Refer to the information supplied<br />

with the software to verify memory requirements.<br />

Note: If you have just installed an adapter or memory, you<br />

might have a memory address conflict.<br />

2. The software is designed to operate on your computer.<br />

3. Other software works on your computer.<br />

4. The software you are using works on another computer.<br />

If you received any error messages while using the software<br />

program, refer to the information supplied with the software for a<br />

description of the messages and solutions to the problem.<br />

If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have the computer<br />

serviced.<br />
