Medical Solutions visit Tarbela

Mr. Kazi Fahim, Business Manager,
Transportation Systems, attended a 25
months Executive MBA Program at the
Lahore University of Management
Sciences. Out of the 25 months, a total
of 16 weeks (spread over the entire
duration) were on-campus lectures. The
remaining course was to be completed
online. The program entailed sixteen

In the ten years that Siemens has been
awarding gold medals to engineering
students not a single recipient has
missed the event. This is because of the
VIP status granted to these students
who are flown in from wherever they
reside and the concerned Siemens

modules on subjects of General
Management, Finance, Marketing,
Organizational Behavior etc.

might occur and guard against it but
this year we just couldn’t predict that
an air line will cause the blues for our
gold medal recipient from Peshawar.
The airline cancelled their flight at the
last moment and Mr. Zaka Ullah Zahid
was left stranded at the airport.
Siemens that has instituted these gold
medals for encouragement was not to
be deterred, so a special ceremony was
arranged for Mr. Zaka Ullah Zahid at
CTI Islamabad where Mr. Asadullah
Divisional Director, MOTAC gave the
medal to Mr. Zaka Ullah Zahid, amidst
applause by the Siemens Officials
invited for this special ceremony.
A group of Siemens Medical Solutions,
Islamabad employees visited Terbela Dam
recently. The group comprised of Mr. S.
Imtiaz Ahmed, Mr. Arif Qureshi, Mr.
Naveed Murtaza, Mr. Imran Khan Latif,
Mr. Arjumand Rehman, Mr. Umair, Mr.
Malik Muneer, Mr. Shehzad, Mr. Usman
Ali and Mr. Adnan Aslam. The visit was
arranged by Mr. Imran Khan Latif and it
included stay at Wapda Rest
House,Terbela. Engineers of Dam gave a
power house briefing to the group.
Tarbela Dam is a large dam on the Indus
River. It is located about 50 kilometers
northwest of Islamabad, and a height of
485 ft above the river bed and a reservoir
size of 95 sq miles makes it the largest
earth filled dam in the world. The dam
was completed in 1974 and was designed
to store water from the Indus River for
irrigation and flood control, and for the
generation of hydro-electric power.
The Dam is a major source of Pakistan's
total hydroelectric capacity. It is part of
the Indus Basin Project which resulted
from a water treaty signed in 1960
between India and Pakistan.
The project was funded by the World Bank.
Construction began in 1968, and
continued until completion in 1976.
Siemens played a major role by supplying
and installing the largest turbine of the
time at Tarbela. The dam has a volume
of 138,600,000 cubic yards
(106,000,000 m³). With a reservoir
capacity of 11,098,000 acre-feet (13.69
km³), the dam is approximately 143 m
high and 8,997 feet (2,743 m) wide at
its crest. It helps to maintain the flow of
the Indus during seasonal fluctuations.
Tarbela is a beautiful valley surrounded
by mountains. It is divided in different
colonies like Sobra City, Right Bank
Colony, Sanobar Colony and Mehran
Colony. Many of the residents are
employees of the Water and Power
Development Authority (WAPDA) of
Pakistan.

AIESEC, the world’s largest student-run
organization, is the international
platform for young people to discover
and develop their potential. The
organisation enables interaction
between organisations and highpotential
university students through
our Global Internship Program,
Conferences and Virtual
Communication Tools. AIESEC in
Pakistan is currently in its 3rd year of
operation and has this year brought in
8 Foreign Interns to work for various
corporations, and has sent 2 Pakistani
students abroad for work experience
as well.

strong supporter and on the National
Board of Advisors of AIESEC.
Siemens is helping the organisation by
sponsoring their National Office and
has provided office space for this
purpose. Local offices of AIESEC are in
LUMS (Lahore), IBA, SZABIST
(Karachi), and NUST (Islamabad).
