After a four-day business trip, leading me to China,
to our Joint-Venture-Partner, the world wide largest
window profile producer Conch, I am currently
on the plane back to Austria. It is July 09, 2011
and I had spent three days in a country, where the
annual economic growth is about 10 percent,
skyscrapers spring up like mushrooms and cities
develop so fast, that maps have to be reworked on
an annual basis. The one shadow on all this is the
ecological price China has to pay, since the destruction
of the environment is reality to the same
extent. The stunning economic growth with high
energy consumption and great pollution has far
reaching consequences: From energy questions
via health hazards towards safeguarding of food
supply.

China is aware of the fact that the environmental
problem will in the long run dampen the future
chances of the country and hence more and more
focuses on quality and not only quantity. The new
five-year-plan of the Chinese government that was
approved upon in March, focuses on a historic
restructuring of China’s economy and amongst
other foresees a development towards ‘green’
economy. More than that, China wants to slow
down its economic growth to only seven percent
per year within the next five years. This way, as well
as through investments in necessary technologies
for cleaner energies fewer raw materials shall be
consumed and excessive pollution shall be avoided.
This development offers also new possibilities
for the industrial countries of the west. After all, if
China works on more environmental friendliness,
more technological know-how will have to be imported
to the country. Here, also HTI sees some
chances in order to grow jointly with the Chinese
market. Hence we are planning to use our existing
Joint-Venture in China, in order to extend the product
portfolio in cooperation with Conch and to
extend our market position in China. For almost
20 years we have been exclusive partners for
Conch for extrusion equipment, and HTI has to
offer many more innovative technological solutions,
becoming more and more interesting for
China. “Wherever your company goes, we will
follow”, answered Mister Guo, after I had introduced
our technological group and told him about
our plans. “Thank you for coming. I am looking
forward to seeing you soon”, he said by the time
we had to say goodbye – I do look forward to my
next trip to China!
Dear readers, these developments as well as our
current order situation give me great trust in the
future of our technological group and encourage
me to keep going the already chosen way. Also
China has now recognized the necessity to create
“values with future”. It is no more about “more of
the same” and “growth at any price”, but it is about
creating products in harmony with the aspects
ecology, economy and ergonomics. Technology in
future will be measured by how it is contributing
toward adding more meaning to these aspects in
all our products.
With these thoughts from my business trip to China
I may thank you, dear HTI employees, for your
passion and please let me combine this thank you
with the appeal to ask you to keep working as
passionate as always for our customers and hence
our company’s success. You, dear business partners
and shareholders, I would like to thank you
very much for accompanying us on the way to a
successful future.
