Francis Scott Key
Don’t miss this star-spangled presentation!
David Wiedenkeller will portray Francis Scott Key—American lawyer,
author and amateur poet— to mark the 199th anniversary year of
Key’s writing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Wiedenkeller has a master’s degree in history and is certified to work
in museums as a curator. He wears period attire and takes on the
persona of his characters to present his living history demonstrations.
He has a repertoire of nearly 20 characters including President George
Washington, General George S. Patton and a Civil War naval officer.
Enjoy this presentation as Wiedenkeller shares the life story of Key,
along with little known facts and relics of the era.
Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough:
The Treasures of Kenwood House, London
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to view outstanding paintings that have never
before traveled outside the United Kingdom. This special exhibit features
forty-eight masterpieces, mostly drawn from the collection of Edward Cecil
Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh and heir to the world’s most successful brewery. The
Iveagh Bequest, as the collection has been called since the earl donated it to the
State, has been housed at Kenwood House, a villa in London. With Kenwood
under renovation, this collection is traveling outside of the United Kingdom for
the first time, and the Milwaukee Art Museum is one of only four venues in the
U.S. to present the exhibit. The highly acclaimed works represent the greatest
artists of the Belle Époque—Europe’s equivalent to America’s Gilded Age.
Start the New Year Right—Schedule Your Annual Physical & Health Screenings
To live a long and healthy life, it is important to stay on
top of necessary screenings and exams. Regular physical
exams provide a snapshot of your health, and test results
may encourage you to make lifestyle changes that will
help keep you healthy.
Screening tests can often detect problems early,
preventing major consequences down the road. For
example, many people at risk for stroke and heart disease
experience no symptoms. Screening tests may find these
and other diseases or conditions early, when they are
easier to treat.
Which tests you need will depend on your age, your
gender, your family history and whether you have risk
factors for certain diseases. Your doctor may also
recommend additional tests based on your lifestyle.
Here are the most common tests recommended for
middle-aged to older adults.
• Blood pressure
• Cholesterol
• Colorectal cancer
• Diabetes
Additionally, women should have a pap test to screen
for cervical cancer, a mammogram to detect breast
cancer, and a bone mineral density test to screen for
osteoporosis. Men 65 or older who have ever smoked
should be screened for an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
For more information on recommended tests and
screenings, talk to your doctor. If you need help finding
a ProHealth Care physician, please call 262-928-2745
and our referral specialists will assist you. Or visit
LESSONS FROM THE HEART
Don’t miss this program on the benefits of HeartMath, presented by health and wellness
consultant Susan Haas. Learn how to convert stress into free-flowing energy for increased vitality,
improved health, clearer thinking, enhanced relationships, and an overall sense of wellbeing.
The core of the HeartMath philosophy is that the heart, physically and metaphorically, is the key
to tapping into an intelligence that can provide fulfillment. Science has shown that the heart
communicates with the body and brain on various different levels. HeartMath has translated
this information into simple tools that focus on teaching how to listen to and follow the intuitive
information of the heart. Susan will show how to use the power of the heart to manage the mind
and emotions. This is one you don’t want to miss!
Music of the Sixties was revolutionary, mirroring
the most creative, most turbulent, most exciting
and most entertaining decade of the last half of the
20th Century. By the mid-1960s rock and roll was
overtaken by rock, folk, funk and soul. It was the era of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Rolling
Stones, Chicago, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Motown Sound. Don’t miss this spectacular live
of human work.
With more than 900 paintings and sculptures that depict various forms
of work, The Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection Man at Work spans
more than 400 years of history (17-20th centuries). See the evolution of
organized work, from manpower and horsepower to water, steam and
electrical power.
The museum itself is a work of art, with architectural elements derived from the collection. Visit three floors
of galleries where the core collection is displayed, as well as special themed exhibitions. The museum also
features a spectacular rooftop sculpture garden and amenities such as a vending café and store. The
Grohmann Museum opened in October 2007.
