Programme of events - October to December
Special Christmas Edition

Wrexham Year of Culture 2011
Hello and welcome
They say all good things must come to an end. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go out with a
bang.
We’re into the final three months of Wrexham’s Year of Culture programme and this is it – your
last chance to dive-in and experience a huge range of events and activities in one sitting. To try
something new. Challenge yourself.
As you’d expect, there’s a distinctly festive flavour to this edition. The programme kicked off
way back in January with a dazzling lantern parade. Well, the lanterns are back, taking to the
streets again when Father Christmas arrives on December 1.
As this is the last edition, there are two things I want to say. First of all, Year of Culture has been
a huge success, boosting attendance at over 500 events (amazing as the team was actually set a
target of 300 events!) and helping to showcase Wrexham to the outside world by attracting
visitors and media coverage.
Bryn’s Buddies
Secondly, a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. Without you, Year of Culture wouldn’t
have happened.
Our sponsors (particularly Eagles Meadow), our patrons, the event organisers, everyone who
turned out to support the events, our previous mayor of Wrexham Councillor Jim Kelly KSG. And,
of course, the council staff who pulled it all together. It was no mean feat.
Wrexham has a lot to offer the world. A lot to shout about. So take your pick of the events lined
up in this programme and give them a shot.
And if you like what you get, do a little shouting of your own. Tell the world about Wrexham.
A Message from Our New Chief Executive
At the time of writing this, I’ve only been here for a few days.
I’m settling into my new job and getting a feel for the place
that’s going to be my home. And do you know what? It feels
great.
As someone getting to know Wrexham for the first time, I can
see a place that offers a lovely quality of life.
One reason is that there’s always something interesting
happening - like the Year of Culture.
Take a look through these pages and you’ll find a fantastic range
of events on offer. There are activities that all the family can get
involved with and events for all ages and tastes.
What’s more, there’s something really infectious about the buzz
and energy being created by Year of Culture. It makes you want to get out there and experience
life. I’ll certainly be attending as many events as I can.
The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band
Santa and snow dogs
People often feel proud of where they live. I’ve only been here for a short time, but I already feel
proud to be part of Wrexham.
And I’m saying this because I mean it. In just a few days, the quality of life, the character, the
people and the warmth of this place have really made an impression on me. Wrexham has a huge
amount to offer.
been contributed by many different
organisations, each of which has made its own
needed. Full details are included with the
