for him during the War Between the States.<br />

Shown in the 1880 Census was a 19 year old white female servant named<br />

Phoebe Roberts living in the household. This possibly indicates some degree<br />

affluence for the family.<br />

John died the year William McKinley was inaugurated as President of the<br />

United States, later to be assassinated. The electron was discovered by J. J.<br />

Thomson that year, and it was Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year.<br />

Queen Victoria is my 29th cousin, four times removed.<br />

Henry <strong>Sharpe</strong> was born in 1832 in Sharon Spring, Schoharie County, New<br />

York. He died on 12 Oct 1905 in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio.<br />

The year Henry was born, the first streetcar - a horse-drawn vehiclecalled the<br />

John Mason - went into operation in New York City onNovember 14, 1832<br />

Henry was a brother of John Elsefer Sharp II, and was the namesake<br />

ofJohn's son, Henry. Henry was my grandfather, known after his 1895move<br />

to Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas as Harry. We knew him asPapa<br />

<strong>Sharpe</strong>.<br />

Ellen Sharp was born in 1834 in Sharon Spring, Schoharie County, New<br />

York. She died between 1860-12 Jul 1940[16].<br />

Thomas K. Sharp was born in 1837 in Sharon Spring, Schoharie County,<br />

New York. He died in 1899 in Sharon Spings, Schoharie County, New York<br />

[17].<br />

General Notes:<br />

Thomas came from New York City, but was born near Sharon, New York.In<br />

1888, he purchased the Sharon House Hotel in Sharon, New York fromhis<br />

older brother, Peter G. Sharp.<br />

The Sharon House had been built in the early 1850's by Henry Moyer.Later,<br />

Fred Eigen owned it. He sold the hotel to Peter G. Sharp andBement P.<br />

Sharp. I cannot identify who Bement was, but probably waskin. The hotel<br />

was owned by H. Benard Grossman when it burned in1926, not to be<br />
