System Components<br />
As a Microsoft ® Embedded Partner, the <strong>DSM</strong> <strong>Computer</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong> is notified of the latest developments<br />
in the area of operating systems and can thus ensure the compatibility between the operating<br />
system and hardware. The Microsoft ® Embedded OEM status also enables the long-term availability,<br />
for example, of Windows ® XP Professional for Embedded Systems for our own products, or<br />
pre-activation of the operating system, when the numbers are suitable, for industrial applications.<br />
We also offer with our systems the creation of customized operating system installations as based<br />
on Microsoft ® Windows ® Embedded POSReady.<br />
Microsoft ® Windows ® 7<br />
Reliable functioning and easy to operate and maintain – these are the demands placed on<br />
industrial PCs. "Windows ® 7 Professional for Embedded Systems" contains a number of<br />
innovative functions and new technologies developed especially to satisfy these demands.<br />
In contrast to Windows ® Vista , which was not successful in industrial applications,<br />
"Windows ® 7 Professional for Embedded Systems" also provides perfect control of the<br />
connected devices in addition to intuitive handling, improved performance, less memory<br />
requirement and a Windows ® XP compatibility mode, and is therefore predestined for<br />
industrial applications.<br />
Microsoft ® Windows ® XP Professional<br />
"Windows ® XP Professional for Embedded Systems" is the industrial version of the classic<br />
XP Pro desktop operating system.<br />
Because of the contract made with Microsoft ® as Embedded OEM Partner, the <strong>DSM</strong><br />
<strong>Computer</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong> is available to supply the Windows ® XP Professional software beyond<br />
2010 up to at least 2016. Delivery is exclusively with the industrial controllers of the <strong>DSM</strong><br />
<strong>Computer</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong>. <strong>DSM</strong> can also create recovery disks for their industrial systems.<br />
Linux <br />
Linux is an operating system for a wide range of platforms. A worldwide developer and<br />
user community continues to create a wealth of additional software and documentation<br />
concerned with Linux and so has greatly expanded its possible fields of application. In<br />
addition, manufacturers of proprietary software are increasingly recognizing a market<br />
with Linux users and over time are offering additional programs for Linux .<br />
Even from the beginning, Linux was made available as GPL, the General Public License. This license guarantees every user free access<br />
to the source code of the Linux operating system. This gives developers access to all source code so they can very easily integrate new<br />
functions or find and eliminate program errors quickly.<br />
The areas of operation for Linux are wide-ranging and include its use on desktop computers, servers, mobile telephones, routers, multimedia<br />
terminals and supercomputers.<br />
