term rental of a home or a mortgage? There will be no <strong>European</strong> contract for the<br />
purchase of l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> the EU will not regulate the details of ownership regimes.<br />
If it did it would have to reserve to states the power to control l<strong>and</strong> use in the<br />
public interest. The problems in Catalonia arise from l<strong>and</strong> use rules that are out<br />
of line with the rest of Europe. That is not an EU problem, but the problem of<br />
information asymmetry might be.<br />
