education, provide respite care for hospice patients, serve
as a partner in education to Sacred Heart St. Katherine
Drexel Catholic School and provide nursing scholarships.

In 2005, Lisa Walker,
CEO and founder, saw a
need to help those with
diabetes and hospice care.
Louisiana is the 2nd highest
state in the United
States for death related to
diabetes. Also, she recognized
that there is a
national nursing shortage.
The 2000 Health
Foundation offers a variety
of services to the
Southwest Louisiana community.
They offer information
in the self-management
and care of diabetes
at the Diabetes
Information Resource
Center located on 2013
Oak Park Boulevard in
Lake Charles. They also
have available supplies,
diabetic shoes and other
items needed in the daily
care of diabetes, in addition
to individual counseling.
Annual scholarships
for nursing students have
totaled over 100 in number.
The foundation is
very excited to be Partners
in Education with Sacred
Heart St. Katherine Drexel
Catholic School. In the
future, the 2000 Health
Foundation hopes to offer
a certified diabetic educator
along with a dietician
to provide classes on selfmanagement
of diabetes
all year long.
The 2000 Health
Foundation has a compassion
for everything they
do. “Being able to provide
assistance to our
community is a very fulfilling
mission and I am
most grateful for the support
that we receive from
Southwest Louisiana in
relation to our annual
fundraiser, Platinum and
Pearls,” explains
Executive Director,
Stephanie Morris.
“Without Southwest
Louisiana supporting that
fundraiser, we would not
be able to carry out our
mission. It’s very exciting
that we can help change
lives and make a difference.”
The Annual Platinum
and Pearls Dancing with
the Stars Gala is Sunday,
November 1st. Now is
the time to buy your tickets!
Nine community
celebrity couples will
dance the cha-cha, salsa,
swing, and more. The
dancing couples include:
Jon Eric Chretien & Dr.
Adrienne Breaux, Bobby
Dower & Leslie Harless,
Harry Williams & Ann
O’Reilly, Bob Pastor &
Laura Leach, James &
Bertha Coleman, James &
Loretta Spruel, Anthony &
Cecelia Bartie, Lauren &
Phil D’Albuquerque, and
Christin Bennett & Rudy
Garca. The dancers have
been trained by Jay and
Maria Cotto and have
been practicing for the last
12-16 weeks for the event.
The dance competition
will start at 6pm at the
Rosa Hart Theatre. The
dancers will compete for
Stephanie Morris
the title of “The 2009
Dancing with the Stars”
champions. The audience
will also pick a winner for
the “People’s Choice
Award” by voting for
their favorite dance couple
through donations to
the foundation.
There will be a VIP pregala
party starting at 4pm
that includes dinner, live
entertainment by Scott
Gertner of Houston, TX
sky bar, a live auction by
auctioneer Dr. Clark
Gunderson, and a silent
auction. The tickets for
the VIP pre-gala party,
which includes tickets to
the show, are $100 and
show-only tickets are $50.
