Rural Dorset has many smaller places of interest to discover including ancient sites and wonderful countryside, all just a little more off the beaten track: Hare Lane Pottery - potter Jonathan Garratt refines his own locally dug clay to create wonderful garden and table ware, which is on display in the pottery’s gallery and pretty courtyard. Knowlton Church & Rings - explore this atmospheric English Heritage site with its Bronze Age rings and ruined church. Edmondsham House & Gardens - open on selected days, the House is of 16th and 18th century construction, with a charming walled garden and an unusual Victorian octagonal dairy. Badbury Rings - an Iron Age hill fort with extensive views and rare orchids in summer. Cranborne Manor Gardens - pretty manor garden containing a Jacobean Mount garden, herb and walled gardens, a river garden and sculptures. Farrs Lodge - discover the 4½ acre gardens and studio of botanic artist Lys de Bray. Barford Ice Cream Garden - enjoy delicious award-winning ice cream in beautiful natural surroundings. Hambledon & Hodd Hills - neighbouring hill forts with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Shillingstone Railway Station Project - see progress on the restoration of this 1950s period station on the former Dorset and Somerset line and the creation of a railway museum.
