<strong>Apogee</strong> <strong>ACS</strong> <strong>Contractor</strong> <strong>Series</strong> Loudspeakers:<br />
Nine New "Processor Optional" Models<br />
<strong>Apogee</strong> <strong>Sound</strong> announces the introduction of a<br />
range of high performance loudspeaker systems<br />
designed for the cost-sensitive contractor/installation<br />
market.<br />
Called <strong>ACS</strong> (<strong>Apogee</strong> <strong>Contractor</strong> <strong>Series</strong>), the<br />
new range was designed with extensive input from<br />
professional audio consultants, and includes an<br />
initial offering of nine different models (including<br />
three subwoofers), with additional designs to<br />
follow.<br />
The <strong>ACS</strong> line is <strong>Apogee</strong>'s first "processor<br />
optional" product group. When used without a<br />
processor, each <strong>ACS</strong> model offers excellent performance,<br />
fulfilling the requirements of most applications.<br />
For particularly demanding applications, the<br />
addition of the low-priced processor smooths<br />
frequency response characteristics, offers protection<br />
against abusive conditions, and provides an electronic<br />
crossover for the bi-amplified models as well<br />
as the subwoofers.<br />
The <strong>ACS</strong> line includes the following models.<br />
• <strong>ACS</strong>-1: An 8" woofer and 1" horn-loaded tweeter<br />
coupled to a 75 x 60 horn that can be rotated to<br />
facilitate installation.<br />
• <strong>ACS</strong>-2: Dual 8" woofers and a 65 x 55 horn that<br />
can be rotated.<br />
• <strong>ACS</strong>-3: A 10" woofer and a medium-size 90 x 45<br />
horn with a 1" compression driver.<br />
• <strong>ACS</strong>-4: A 12" woofer and the same 90 x 45 horn<br />
driver as the <strong>ACS</strong>-3.<br />
• <strong>ACS</strong>-8: A 15" cone/2" compression driver design<br />
with a large 60 x 40 degree horn.<br />
Rounding out the line is a miniature satellite<br />
speaker called the <strong>ACS</strong>-SAT, designed for use with<br />
the <strong>ACS</strong>-110, a single 10" vented subwoofer that is<br />
ideal for restaurant and club installations. Additional<br />
subwoofers include the <strong>ACS</strong>-115 (a single<br />
15" model), and the <strong>ACS</strong>-118 (a single 18" model).<br />
The <strong>ACS</strong>-3, <strong>ACS</strong>-4 and <strong>ACS</strong>-8 may be ordered<br />
in rear serviceable versions (designated "RS") for<br />
installations where access to the front of the enclosure<br />
is restricted. The <strong>ACS</strong>-4 and <strong>ACS</strong>-8 can be<br />
specified as single-amped or bi-amped models at<br />
the time of purchase.<br />
The <strong>ACS</strong> processor differs substantially from<br />
previous <strong>Apogee</strong> designs. It consists of a chassis<br />
and power supply called a "mainframe," which<br />
accepts up to four "voicing cards." Voicing cards<br />
are available for each of the <strong>ACS</strong> speaker models<br />
and subwoofers. Supplemental modules may be<br />
purchased with mic inputs for paging applications<br />
and an equalizer for system tuning.<br />
Other features include derived mono subwoofer<br />
out, adjustable level of the protective limiters to<br />
match any size amplifier, and a choice of XLR or<br />
barrier strip for input and output connections.<br />

<strong>ACS</strong> Main Frame Controller<br />
The <strong>ACS</strong> Controller consists of a MAIN FRAME which accepts four<br />
voicing modules. Modules are available for each of the <strong>ACS</strong> loudspeaker<br />
models, with two module bays required for bi-amplified<br />
speakers. The controller provides factory-set equalization curves to<br />
smooth the response, protective limiting, and active crossovers (for biamplified<br />
models and subwoofers). Inputs and outputs are available<br />
with either XLR connectors or barrier strips. Mic input and EQ<br />
modules are also available.<br />
