6 forum MAN FERROSTAAL LEVERAGES SYNERGIES IN THE MAN GROUP THE HUB OF THE MAN GROUP MAN Ferrostaal is building a sales and service platform for the MAN Group. In collaboration with other affiliated companies in the MAN Group, the company wants to make the products of the Group more readily available to customers across the globe, and is using its international sales and service platform and its financing expertise to do so. 01
02 “The MAN Group has a fantastic range of products. However, customers in many countries simply have no access to them. We want to work systematically to make this access possible”. This is how Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, CEO of MAN Ferrostaal, describes the company’s most important strategic development goal. This will necessitate tapping into the potential synergies within the MAN Group. These include valuable industrial products and a presence in many different countries on the one hand, and solid options for financing on the other. MAN Ferrostaal will strive to systematically consolidate these strengths in the future. “We will exploit our international sales and service network to open up new market potential in collaboration with other affiliated companies in the MAN Group,” says Mitscherlich. “We will do so in particular in countries where we have forged strong connections going back many years.” This is particularly true of Latin America, the Near and Middle East and South-East Asia. 01. Commercial vehicles: MAN Ferrostaal looks after sales and service in selected countries in Latin America and South-East Asia. 02. Diesel engines: MAN Ferrostaal and MAN Diesel are entering into a joint venture for the construction of diesel power plants. THE ECHO 1/2006 7 >>>Strong starting position. MAN Ferrostaal has already been working in collaboration with sister companies within the Group for many years. For example, it acts as an agent for MAN TURBO in 20 European and Latin American countries. In addition, it regularly uses turbines and compressors manufactured by its sister company from Oberhausen in its large industrial plants. MAN Ferrostaal represents MAN Diesel in countries including Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Columbia and Ecuador. While the company has occasionally sold MAN commercial vehicles, its closer collaboration with MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is a relatively new venture. Only in the past two years has MAN Ferrostaal entered into the Mexican bus market, in collaboration with MAN Nutzfahrzeuge. “Our priority is to bundle, systemise and enhance our shared activities within the Group” says Mitscherlich. “We want to expand the business we do with products from other MAN companies from its current value of 300 million euros to more than 1 billion euros per year by 2010.” This will be achieved through the new sales and service platform that is being established by Dr. Klaus Lesker, who has been a Member of the MAN Ferrostaal Executive Board since May 2006.
