This required very tight coordination
between Voith Siemens and MAN
Ferrostaal.
HIGH DEMANDS
The contract was the first of its kind to be
handled by Voith Siemens Hydro outside of
Brazil and the first example in South America
of an integral modernisation project with
both foreign and local involvement.
The project placed the highest demands on
the technical and commercial project
management team. MAN Ferrostaal exploited
its expert knowledge of what the
domestic market has to offer (local manufacturing
capabilities, material procurement,
transport and logistics services, customs
clearance, construction and assembly), so
that a very high proportion of materials
and services were supplied locally. Making
the most of local services is of strategic
importance for all international investments
in Peru.
The offshore part of the project consisted
mainly of engineering and components of the
electro-mechanical imports, construction
foot of the Peruvian Andes
management, as well as assembly and construction
supervision. By the time the contract
was completed, the offshore and onshore parts
of the project each amounted to 50 percent.
Despite some surprises along the way,
everything remained on schedule with no
production downtimes.
NEW HYDROELECTRIC PLANT PLANNED
The Voith Siemens Hydro/Siemens and
MAN Ferrostaal consortium signed a
contract in April 2006 with the Rizo Patrón
group for the delivery of the electromechanical
plant equipment. Total investment
in the new 220 MW hydroelectric
plant in El Platanal amounts to 180 million
US dollars, with the electro-mechanical
component accounting for approximately
03
23 percent. El Platanal will be the third
largest hydroelectric plant in Peru and will
be fully operational in 2009.
