<strong>Services</strong> Overview<br />
The <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Health</strong> & <strong>Wellness</strong> Office is not a<br />
physician’s office. Medical (physician) services<br />
are contracted <strong>and</strong> limited. Hours <strong>and</strong>/or days<br />
of service are subject to change. There may<br />
also be times when the <strong>College</strong> Nurse <strong>and</strong>/or<br />
Psychological Counselor are out of the office, or<br />
off campus, during regular office hours.<br />
<strong>Services</strong> are free to students, except as indicated<br />

Frequently Asked Questions<br />
Do I have to pay to be seen?<br />
No. Full or part-time students who have paid the<br />
health fee <strong>and</strong> are registered at the time of service in<br />
credit-bearing classes, for the current semester, are<br />
eligible for health services. Eligibility for services<br />
is verified at each visit. Bring your student ID card<br />
<strong>and</strong>/or number.<br />
Can I get over the counter medications?<br />
Yes. If you need aspirin, cough drops, b<strong>and</strong>-aids,<br />
ibuprofen, acetaminophen, feminine hygiene<br />
products, condoms, etc., just come to <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Health</strong><br />
<strong>Services</strong> anytime during our office hours.<br />
Do you offer therapy?<br />
Yes. Psychological Counseling <strong>Services</strong> provides<br />
assistance to students who are struggling with stress<br />
or troubling personal problems. Real life problems<br />
such as work stressors, financial concerns, illness,<br />
family pressures, <strong>and</strong> relationship issues can be<br />
distracting, making it difficult to concentrate on<br />
academic work. Our goal is to assist you with brief<br />
personal counseling to deal with the life challenges<br />
that can hinder your academic progress. The <strong>Student</strong><br />
<strong>Health</strong> Counseling services are not meant to be longterm.<br />
Community referrals will be made in the event<br />
longer term interventions are required.<br />
All services are completely confidential (with special legal<br />
exceptions).<br />
<strong>Services</strong> offered<br />
Appointments are encouraged for all of our services<br />
(exception: urgent illness or acute injury - in the<br />
case of a life-threatening condition, 911 should be<br />
called first). We will see walk-ins only if there are no<br />
appointments scheduled at the same time.<br />
First Aid for on-campus accidents or injuries.<br />

TB (tuberculosis) Testing<br />
Offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday by<br />
appointment. Must return 48-72 hours later for test<br />
to be “read” <strong>and</strong> receive a certificate of results.<br />
Registered Nurse Consultation - <strong>Health</strong> &<br />
<strong>Wellness</strong> counseling, illness assessment, advice,<br />
referral to community resources, vision / hearing<br />
screening, <strong>and</strong> cholesterol screening (nominal fee -<br />
call for details).<br />
Physician Consultation<br />
Initial diagnosis <strong>and</strong> treatment of short-term illnesses,<br />
<strong>and</strong> physical examinations for program entrance,<br />
employment or DMV. The physician at <strong>Student</strong><br />
<strong>Health</strong> <strong>Services</strong> may write short-term prescriptions<br />
for some conditions. We have a limited formulary<br />
of prescription medications available, which are<br />
dispensed, free of charge, during physician clinic.<br />
We do not fill outside prescriptions.<br />
Psychological Counseling<br />
Brief personal counseling by a Licensed Clinical<br />
Social Worker or Post Graduate Interns.<br />
Smoking Cessation Counseling<br />
Information about the effects of tobacco on the body<br />
<strong>and</strong> how to quit, as well as community resources.<br />

Dental Hygiene <strong>Services</strong><br />

Market Street, Suite 8106. Free services for students<br />
<strong>and</strong> staff of <strong>Shasta</strong> <strong>College</strong>. X-rays, scaling, polishing,<br />
deep cleaning, etc. Work is done by Dental Hygiene<br />
students, monitored <strong>and</strong> evaluated by licensed/<br />
registered dental hygienists.<br />
